Z., by a. local attorney. The instrument previously belonged to the late W. Baucke, of Oioro- hanga, a well-known New Zealnnd author. A careful examination has revealed the name Antoni Stradi- varius engraved on the inside of the violin, which was brought by Bauckvs father in Bavaria about B5 years ago. The present owner has had the instrument examined by an expert in Auckland, and its measurements correspond exactly with those of Stradivarius Messial model.
