Societies: SASY By Rachel Jussaume and Colleen Belanger Okay, we know that the title is really lame, so that is why we are welcoming any suggestions for a new one. If you have any ideas write them down and drop them off in the lounge. First things first. Our society would like to thank the Barn and Panther Lounge staff for assisting us in having fun at our *‘Getting to know you’’ pool tournament that was held on the 23rd. Everyone had a super time. So thanks again! Also another thanks goes out to Moosehead for supplying the prizes and the Barn for the drink spe- cials. We would like to thank all those who sponsored our AIDS walkers. It was a beautiful day and the walkers enjoyed themselves. We held a pre-Road Apples party in our lounge last Thursday. Since this was written before the party, I can’t tell you much. But if it is anything like all our other events, everyone had an awesome time and is looking forward to the next party, which will be mentioned in next weeks column. Now for the society. As of now, the society consists of 52 members and we encourage anyone to join. The fee is a inere $5.00, and is good for the whole year. It entitles you to a FREE movie and pizza on select Fridays at 12:30 pm up in the soc/anth lounge (which, by the way, is the best lounge on campus). Also we have weekly meetings held on Wednesdays. We are still trying to find a suitable time when the majority of our members can attend, and until then the time will be posted each week on the door of the lounge. The minutes of each meeting will be posted on top of the bookshelf if you can’t attend the meeting. The executive of this year’s society is Jennifer Duncan as our president, Erin Macdonald as vice president and treasurer, Rachel Jussaume as secretary, Geoff Smith as anthropology rep, and Colleen Belanger as public relations rep. The society will once again be holding various fundraisers. As of right now, we are selling 50/50 tickets. If all the tickets sell, the winner will taking home $175.00. So if you haven’t bought your ticket or tickets yet, what are you waiting for? Time is running out. The draw will be held October 11th, in the lounge. Good luck to all who bought tickets. This year to make our lounge even better, we are getting a coffee counter built in our coffee corner. The generous students at Holland College are going to come and build it for us. Another additional touch that is going to look great is a totem pole that Panther Prints Sociology/ Anthropology Society (Yah) Professor LeClair will be making for us. Let’s face it, what’s a soc/anth lounge without a totem pole? Also, for those late night students, or early birds, or even those who can’t function without coffee or tea, we can help you! We are now selling cups of coffee or tea for a mere 25 cents each! We offer, of course, only the best. Maxwell House or Nabob’s Southern Pacific blend for you traditional- ists and for those of you who like to live on the wild side, we will be offering flavoured coffees. Red Rose is available for tea drinkers. For all you artsy types, we are holding a contest for a new crest to put on this years jackets. At this point the prize is unknown. If you would like to order a 95/96 soc/anth jacket there is a sign up sheet in the lounge. If you have any questions talk to Erin or Colleen. Well that’s it for this week. Keep checking the lounge for upcoming events and keep reading SASY.
