At the lower turn near the quarter, Blanche took the pole from Jack Spratt and soon obtained a lead which she held throughout the race, coming in about two lengths ahead of Banker who had captured second position from Deceiver Propellor came in fourth with Minnehaha fifth and Jach Spratt sixth Second Heat—The send-off was a good one for all except Jack Spratt, which was about a length behind. Shortly after. get- ting the word “go” Spratt broke and was soon left behind. By the time the quarter had resolved itself into a procession, Blanche leading, followed by Deceiver, Banker, Minnehaha,Propeller and was reached the race Spratt. At the half there was no change, excepting that Deceiver and Banker were side by eile fighting gamely for second place. On the last quarter, however, Banker, captured second place from Deceiver, and ame ina nose ahead of the Tryon repre- sentative. Blanche nad a lead of a length at the finish, and Minnebaha had fourth place. Propeller and Spratt were distanc- ed. Banker was put back to third place for breaking, and second place was given Deceiver. In this race Egmont Peerless, Lawnde- ninic and Blanche were drawn, and the contest was therefore between Provider, Headlight, Jobn I ° and Little Joker. Provider drew the pole, with John L second, Headlight third and Little Joker fourth. First Heat—On the third score a eend- if was effected. Provider made a bad reak shortly after getting the word, and Little Joker took the pole. At the quar- ter Headlight was pushing Joker hard for first place, and Provider, who had settled jown and was moving at a lively clip, waa lessening the space between himself and Headlight, John L was some die- tance behind. On the back stretch Headlight passed Joker, and took the ead, which she held until nearing the three quarter when she had to give place to Provider, which had in the meantime relegated Joker to third place. Provider finished firat, with Headlight about half a length behind, and Joker and John L close after. Hilda continued to lead, with Fairy se- cond, Sir John Third, Tanner Boy fourth and Egmont fifth, the heat having as- sumed a processional aspect. At the three quarters the only change to nete in position was between the last two, Eg- mont having passed Tanner Boy. They finished in this order, Lady Hilda having a length te spare over the second horse, with Sir John a good third, Tanner Boy fourth and Egmont fifth. On account of breaking the judges made some changes in this order, which will be seen by referring to the summary. following order, Lady Hilda, Sir Johr, Fairy, Egmont and Tanner Boy, Fairy yushing Sir John hard for second place. here was material change until the three-quarters, by which time Tanner Boy had captured third place, and Fairy had dropped behind. At the finish Lady Hilda had a lead of about a length over Sir John, with Tanner Boy third, Egmont fourth and Fairy last. On account of running, the heat was given to Sir John, Lady Hilda getting second place, and Tanner Boy third. Third Heat—They got the word on the second score, and the horses were wel! bunched until the quarter where Lady Hilda took the lead, and was never headed. The finish was very exciting, Lady Hilda coming in ahead by less than a length, with Sir John second, Tanner Boy at his wheel and Fairy a short distance bebind. Because of running ‘the judges reversed this order, giving Fairy first place over Lady Hilda, with Sir John third. Tanner Boy fourth and Egmont fifth. No time. ourth Heat —Brown drove Lady Hilda this heat and the foNowing one, and the black mare led from start to finish, winning the heat handily. Tanner Boy came in second, Fairy third, Sir John fourth and Egmont fifth. The judges gave second place to Fairy and third to Sir John because of ranning on the part of Tanner Boy. Fifth Heat-—Lady Hilda, as in the pre- ceding heat, toek the lead at the atart and was never headed. At the quarter there was a close contest for second place be- tween Tauner Boy and Sir John, but the former finally got ahead. At the half Lady Hilda was about four lengths ahead, with Tanner Boy second, Sir John third and Fa‘ry in the rear, At the three-quarters Sir John passed Tanner Boy, and took second position which he held tothe close. no Summary Purse three in Same day and track, 2.40 class. $100, divided. Reddin’s Headlight made a game effort to secure first money in the 2.50 class, buthad to be content with second. The proceedings throughout were well conducted, and the best of order prevailed. But the alleged grand stand should be im- proved at once. People do not relish sit- ting on the “soft side” of a board in the broiling sun, no matter how interesting and closely contested the races may be. The Judges’ stand is much too small. It should be on the other side of the track, and there should be apartments therein for the press representatives.
