Its the FRAGRANT COOL‘ MILD “The Smootiiest Smoke” HIOKEY 8i NICHOLSON BRilP_R_EPliRT \ Below will be found a brief synopsis of telegraphic reports re- ceived at the Head Office of the Bank of Montreal from its Branches. The Branch Managers have complete and intimate know- ledge of each local situation and are in close touch with crop condi- tions in all sections 0f the districts mentioned. GENERAL Grain harvesting in the Prairie Provinces has been delayed by in- termittent rains, but; cutting is practically completed, except in northern Alberta, and threshing is becoming general. Further damag- ing frosts have occurred in Alberto. and Saskatchewan. Wheat onturns indicate that the major portion of the crop will be low both in yield and in grade. Coarse grains are a fair crop. In Qaiebcc. with harvest- ing under way. the crop outlook generally continues to be favorable. In Ontario crops in general are good. Dry weather has facilitated threshing operations and the cut- ting of a. good second crop of Al- falfa. Spring grains are provins somewhat discoioured as a result. of lodging. In the Maritime Provinces, where results indicated arc fair, recent rains have been beneficial. In British Columbia favourable weather has been helpful. and good crops are expected of grain; hay. apples. mars, plums and hops. De- tails follow:— PRAIRIE PRDVINCES ALBER.TA~I-Iorvesting is general in the south, and thc- cutting of wheat and coarse grains is well ad- vanced. Rain and cold weather in the north have retarded ripening. Late crops have been heavily damaged by frost and the grade will be lowered. The yield over the province as a whole is expected to approximate that of last year. The outlook for the best crop centuries to be satisfactory. SASKATCHE- ‘WAN-Cutting is neariv completed and thershing is under way in most districts. although progress has been hindered by rains. Damage from frost is reported in west central south central and central districts. Owing to frost and rust, low grades predominate, but the rc- turns generally will exceed those of 1934 . MANITOBA—ThIeshil‘1g is general. although operations have been held up by wet weather which is causing further deterloriution. A large wheat acreage is not. likely to be worth threshing. Yield and grade will be poor. The coarse grain crop ls light. PROVINCE 0F QUEBEC In t-he lower St. Lawrence and Luke St. John districts harvesting of a fairly satisfactory groin crop MARITIME PROVINCES In Prince Edwrad Island the harvesting o1’ a. good average grain crop is nearing completion. In New Brunswick and Nova. Scotia. a patchy groan crop is now being inn-vested; roots and fruit are fair to good, and pastures show some iccovcry since rains fell. PROVINCE or imrrisn COLUMBIA _ Threshing is well under way on Vancouver Island and tlielower mainland. Grain and hay are ex- pected to yield good croas- Tom- atoes or somewhat below aver-use quaity are moving to canncrics in fair volume. An unusually heavy yield of hops is anticipated. Late potatoes are a good crop in both quality and yield. Tree fruits are progressing satisfactorily, with apples showing better than average colour and running largely in 6X- port sizes. Pears are now moving to market. The following yields are indicated: Apples and Dwrfi. 90 D91’ cent of average; peaches 35 i191‘ cent. and plums and prunes 100 per cent. There is ample water for 1r- rigatton purposes and pasturage on the mainland is reported good.
