MURDER MOST FOUL. Simza, April 9. A letter has been received here frum the leader of the British in Manipur, declarin that the Chief Commissioner, James Quinton and all his colleagues who were taken prisoners at the time of the attack upon the British residency at Manipur have been murdered. This news is believed here. There has been further fighting near Mauipur. Another British officer has been killed. It is presumed that this oticer is either Lieutenant Grant, who commanded the British force which was recently captured at Fort Thabat, near Manipur, or Captain Presgrave, who was in command of the detachment of British troops sent to Grant's relief, A Disloyal Clergyman. Lonpon, April 9. At the dinner given yesterday by the Devon Congregational Union, at Tavistock, Devonshire, a sensation was caused by the presiding minister, Rev. R. Davis, who said he could not propose the toast to the Queen, and that he would, therefore, call upon the Rev. Mr. Johnson to perform the task. Davis added that he (Johnson) might alzo coast the Prince of Wales and all the gamblers if he chose to doso. Rev. Mr. Johnson consequently proposed the health of the Queen, and the whole gathering rose and sang ‘* God Save the Queen.” Tupper's Challenge. Lonpbon, April 9, The reply of Sir Charles Tupper to Sir Henry Tyler's criticism of his speeches against the Grand Trunk Railway during the Canadisn election campaign appears in the Times of yesterday morning. Sir Charles Tupper expresses himself as willing tu meet Tyler before the shareholders of the Grand Trunk Railway Company and make good every statement he made as to the partisan management of the Company Nobody believes that Tupper’s offer will be accepted. The argument before the Supreme Court in the case of the schooner Sayward, involving the question of the jurisdiction of the United States ia the Behring Sea, has been postponed, as the United States government is not ready with its case. Legislative Council Abolition. Frepericron, April 9. The Government bill to abolish the Legislative Council passed the House of Assembly here yesterday afternoon without opposition.
