He found that beneath the sur- face of the land was almost limit- less wealth iisut the multitudes who had built themselves humble homes on the surface did not know of it and had been living thus in undisturbed possession for a number of years. The driving force behind the Christian enterprise is the zeal of men whose lives are invested in Chrsit's cause. Third, there are great numbers of men and women in our time who are giving up worldly pros- pects and possessions and literally putting their lives into the sal- vation of people. I have just visit- ed a number of the theological colleges of my own church and found in them scores of young people who are deliberately turn- ing down opportunities and offers of personal gain to answer Christ's call, "Follow Me." Brilliant, high- ly educated and highly trained with gifts and energies that would make them a power in any field of action, they turn away from the best the world can give "for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jests, their Lor ." They do not have wealth in actual pos- session, as Patmore had, but it is before them for the taking, and they forget it in their eagerness to spend and be spent. for Him. These young men and women are the hope of the nation. Canada will reach only the greatness that. they claim for her and will win it only by their inspiration and sup- part. There is no need to give other examples; numbers of them in other walks of life are before use as 1 write. Christ's followers in our generation are reaching as high a standard of devotion and self- sacriflce as any in the post. No generation ever had as many martyrs of the Cross as ours. But what claim does this have on the ordinary Canadian citizen. It is only in so far as this call comes home to you and me that we can have a part in this vast endeavor.
