Mr. J as. O'Donnell Accompanies Remains Of Capt. Flemming Mr. Jas O'Donnell, who accompani- ed the remains of the late Capt._J. R. Fleming from Ottawa to Hope River for interment, in referring to the car accident in which Capt. Fleming lost his life said the deceased who was on the R. M. C. staff at Kingston, where he had taught for the past year. was in Ottawa attending to some work in the archives in Ottawa. Here he met a party of friends and was introduccd to a Miss Ewart who volunteered to drive the deceased from Ottawa to Lucerne in Quebec. They left Ottawa at 1.45 in the after- noon in an open car-a seven pas- senger touring car-and after reach- ing three and a quarter miles past the village of Masson, Miss Ewart, who was driving suddenly found the car to swerve from a blowout. She endeavored to right it but the car swung across the road and struck a; fence and tree. Capt. Fleming was sitting beside the driver and an eye witness of the accident stated that the head of the deceased struck a trx and he im- mediately slumped back ill the car. Dr. Dandy, of Ottawa, who left that city a half hour after Miss Ew- art and Capt. Fleming, and was en route to the same place. arrived on the scene about two minutes after the accident and when he reached the unfortunate victim he pronounc- ed him dead. Mr O'Donnell who was a personal friend of the late Capt. Fleming. mo- tored from Montreal to Buckingham and after ascertaining the details got in communication with the coroner.
