Lonpon, Aug. 25. Inthe House of Commons, Parnell re sumed the debate and moved an aimend- ment to the Address in reply to the Queen's Speech. He predicted that the Govern men would not last for a year, and charged them with having incited the disorders pre- valent in Belfast He also said that there would be many evictions, the greatest dis tress, and the most severe coercion existing this winter. Gladstone subsequently spoke on the amendment. The Government de cided to oppose Parnell’s amendment, and will be taken on it. FisaH.—-Mackerel continues in very light receipt, total landing by the fleet last week at all ports being only 1,441 bbls against 14,804 bbls for the corresponding week last year and the catch to date is only 385,- 009 bbls. 150.000 bbis less than a year ago. Last advices from the Bay fleet are unfayor- able and there is no prospect of anything like an average catch this season. No fare sales the past W eek, laspecte d lots at out- ports are held at $5 50 for No 3; $650 to $7 for No y $- and $12 to $15 for No a No 2 of 1885 catch are held at $6 to $7 and No 3 at $5 80 to 36. Last sales of P. E. Island were at $5 50 to $6 per bbl, but higher rates are expected for new arrivals. Market closes unsettled, with an upward tendency, as buyers are beginning to realize the situation. Codfish are in liberal supply and while quotations are the same, concessions have to be made to sell round lots. Havoc Among Pishermen. A despatch from St. John’s, Nfid., of the 19th inst., says: Accounts of the destruc- tion caused by the recent gale are fast flow- ing in. St. Pierre cables that a most violent storm swept over the island op the night of the 18th. It was the fiercest known for a quarter of a century Buildings were blown down in every direction and _ con- siderable damage was done to the shipping in the roads. Two vessels were driven ashore and completely wrecked and several men were badly hurt. The ship’s side was broken in and such was the fury of the sea that the crew with diffi- culty clung to the bottom of the wreck all night, being surf-washed till 9 o’clock next morning, when the sea somewhat abating a line was floated tothe ship-wrecked fishermen and one by one they were hauled ashore.
