'The change and rest greatly helped him but soon after his return to St. John it was apparent that he could not continue his labors in this climate, and before the year closed he once more hid far-well to his beloved work, and this time it was iinal. His letters from the South and from California breathed the same spirit of consecration which had characterized his previous life. Whether serving or sufer- ing he was in the hands-of his God, and he could tiust and not be afraid. His-last public ministratlons were for the church at San Jacinto. Du ring the three years of hlsfstay he endured him- self to the people and they became dear to him. Almost his ` last words were: “Sister Jordan do not lei' this little flock become scattered." Three weeks before last sermon. The members of all the churches united in doing allpossible for the dying preacher, but the time of his departure was at hand. it came quietly and easily. He was up and dressed during the morning. In the afternoon, while sitting up in bed, he talked with Jordan, and when she- left was assisted by the nurse to lie down in a touched, him, and he slept.” ' His brother, Jas. H. Stewart, of 'Los Angeles, was hastening V to his bedside, but did not reach San Jacinto until 6 pm. Life’s race well run, Life’s work well done, Life’s crown well won, _ Now comes rest. He was buried by the wish of his con gregation on an elevation in the centre of the cemetery. W. G, Curley, of Redlands, Southern California, conducted the fun- eral services. His testimony is “we shall all miss him sorely in our work, for he was a good man and full of faith and the Holy Spirit. His bcdy will lie at rest un- der the shadow of snow-capped Mt. San Jacinto until the resurrection morn.” Thus ends the earthly labors of another true servant of Jesus Christ. His influ- ence is still strongly felt and the future harvi sts shall be the richer because of his life. We rejoice in his earnestness, his faithfulness and his self sacridce. He is enshrined in our hearts. His memory urges us to diligence and devotion.-The Christian. _ ` OUT OF THE SHADOW.
