She has om board the followmy pas- sengers : Mrs. McNabb, Mr. J. Wortman, Miss Fechan, and Miss McDonald. Iv is easy to see why the Tax Ring and its organ are so bitterly opposing Mir. Ferguson in Cardigan. His elecuon will be a deadly blow to the Taxing Combination. Yheretore, the word is ‘‘anyth.ng’ —ues, misrepresentations, mean dodges—no mat- ter what—‘‘anythimg to beat Donald ; or, better still, blutf him off.” We regret to learn that the dwelling house of Mr. Frederick Meek, of French River, New London, was, on Sunday last, with all its contents, consumed by five. There was no person on the premises at the time, and it is supposed the fire origmated from a defective tiue. Only for the assist- ance of a large number of fishermen from New London Harber it is thought many houses in the vicimity would also nave been destroyed. ; Two very valuable properties were sold by William Dodd, Esq., sat moon to-day. ‘the first was the house and premises on the corner of Queen and Sydney Streets, known as the ‘‘ Glasgow House.” Is was pur- ghased by W. A. Weeks, Esq., for the sum of $5,000. The next was a dwelling house ‘and building lot on the corner of Hlills- borough and Sydney Streets, occupied at present by Mr. F. LePage. It was pur- chased by Uriah Matthews, Esy., for the sum of $2,600. A saLe of new and second-hand wagons will take place at Wm. Dodd’s salesroom to-morrow, at 2 o’clock. The number for sale consists of single-seated, concord, market wagons, buggies, etc. They are a very superior lot, as regards style, work- manship and finish, and were manufactured by a first-class establishment in this city. Any person wishing to get a bargain will attenc, as they must be sold withomt re- serve. Ar'the Stipendiary Magistrate's Cour this forenoon, John King, drunk and dis- orderly, was fined $2 and costs or eight days. Cyrus Goodrow, drunk and sleeping in the English churchyard, was fied the same. James White, drunk and stagger- ing on Queen Street, was fined the sale. Arthur Stanlake, arrested for fighting on Rochford Square, was discharged on his recognizance, as the person who he was fighting with appeared to be the assailant. James McEachern, drunk and using obscene language’ on the street, was fined $4 and costs or 20 days. John Taylor, drunk and frequenting a house of ill-fame, was fined $6 and costs or one month. SreamM communication between Alberton and the Magdalen Islands is spoken of. From a communicated article on the subject which appeared in the Pioneer, the following :— “We understand itis the intention of our| tailroad authorities to employ a steainer of} light dranght to run in connection with the Railway from this harbor to the Magdalenes once a week, and to Newcastle, N. 6., trip about during the summer. This boat, it 1s ex- pected, will take mackerel from the different harbors along the coast between East Point and North Cape on a through bill of lading to Boston,—deliver them at the Railway Whartf here, and thence by rail to Charlottetown. This arrangement will no doubt be appreciated by the fishermen at Rustico, New London, Malpeqae, Tiguish, Nail Pond and Mimini- esh, who will thus be enabled to ship their fish to Boston at regular periods.” Yesterpay evening, at 5 o'clock, a little boy named Steele—apparently about four ears of age—came very near beingsmothered in a drain on Great George Street, which leads to Euston Street sewer. He was playing with a kitten at the mouth of the drain when it shortly disappeared under the planking, and all the winning calls he could send forth would not induce it to re- appear. He determined to follow it, and was soon close at its quarters ; but as he crawled in, the kitten crawled further, and thus they went on until both became so bogged in the deep mud that they could not return. Realizing his position he cried loud and piteously. ‘Those passing the street were mystified by cries coming from the ground ; but they could not tell from which part they came. At iength a few planks were removed from the drain, and the top of the boy’s head was seen protrud- ing from the mud, and the kitten lying dead a short distance off. When taken ont he was completely exhausted, and for a time lay in a yery ¢vitical condition. we extract } ee en mn NEWS BY TELEGRAPH. Londition of the Emperor.
