U.PEI.THEATRE Dilly Pathgate SOCIETY Billy Bathgate is the story of a typical Brooklyn kid in 1935 New York. Billy becomes involved with the mob and works for them during the summer while they await trail. This was a movie I had wanted to see since the first previews. It features high calibre names MEET DAVID MO SES like Dustin Hoffman and Bruce Willis, so I figured | could count on quality acting, besides, I love a good THE DIRECTOR OF gangster movie. I am sure we all remember how rainy it was on November 11, and I walked from Blanchard NEXT SEMESTER’S to the mall in that rain to see Billy Bathgate. Vi AJOR PRODUC TION Generally the movie lived up to my expectations except for one detail: I felt as if | had walked in late and left early. What I saw was great, but it was just a slice of Billy’s life, with no direction. It was like a high school essay: ‘‘My summer job asa gangster’’ \ MUS rT for all who and I’m sure we all remember how exciting those . . essays were. Youcould feel the movie building to- V1 sh to be involved. ward a great potential, the acting was great and they really made it look authentic. I think the writer just burnt out near the end. FRIDAY I would still recommend you to see this movie, just don’t have high expectations and go during the week. NOVEMB ER a : It is not worth the full weekend price. (Also, can anyone out there settle an argument: the person I saw 3 P M the movie with, Iwon’t name names, insists there was . ° actually a famous person named Billy Bathgate. If this is true, does anyone know who he was?)
