The driver of the team, a boy named David Reid, was quite deaf, and was ignoraat of the train's approach. The train struck the fore wheels of the carriage, throwing the rear part of it and the driver on one side of the track and the horse on the other. The boy escaped unhurt, the horse got a number of light cuts, but the wagon was completely smashed to pieces. ——_-@-———— A Goop Ipga.-—-Saye the St. John Sun: Mr. Brown has carried the Kent Northern Railway through to a successful completion under difficulties that would long ago have utterly routed a less plucky map; while the people of Richibucto see now before them a realization of the expectation of years—con nexion with the railway system of Canada and rapid access to the markets of the world. The completion of the Kent Northern marks a new era in the progress of Richibucto and that section of the country tributary thereto, and already talk is heard of a line of fast sail- ing schooners to connect with P, E, Island. wninel gh ci YESTERDAY afternoon, near Miltou, we saw a large black dog emgaged in making havoc with a flock of sheep. The flock was pretty badly dispersed, and the dog was lying on the road with one of its unfortunate victims bleeding badly beside it. Having greeted the brute with a couple of stones he made off after some others of the flock, and doubtless succeeded in despatching afew of them. The law against these sheep-killing dogs that run loose all over the country should be more strictly enforced, The amount of mischief one of them can do with plenty of subjects on hand is surprising, and the man whois able to rid a community of their presence de- serves no little thanks, err Amerois Lsxocent.—The colamns of a journal are not generally used to criticize a trial ia advance, but the shallowness of plac- ing Amero at the bar to plead toa murder of which the authorities are well aware he is not guilty, is a burlesque on justice. Amero is a poor, weak, half-witted fellow, and there is not evidence enough to connect him with the crime in the least degree. It may be set down as a certainty that he will not be convicted, and that the money used in the trial will be wasted. Jt would be much better for the authorities to look in a different direction for the real murderer. They know that Amero is not the man. Let them follow up certain clues which they possess.— Boston Star, —_-+-—»>-—_—- Misisters, Lawyers, Teachers and others whose occupation gives but little exercise, should use Carter's Little Liver Pills for torpid Liver and biliousness, One is a dose, {sepl7 2w eod wkly a A Hong Kong despatch states that the severity of the blockade in Tonquin has been so far relaxed as to allow vessels to proceed to ports of destination after being searched for articles contraband of war.
