AN inquest was held last Monday, by Coroner James Barclay, on the body of the late Alex. McLellan, formerly of Lot 13, who was found dead on a road in the vicinity of Grand Digue, Lot 9._ The evidence taken by the jury seem- ed to indicate that the deceased had crossed the river in a boat on the pre- vious Thursday and that he had become exhausted and died from fatigue and exposure. His cap and shoes were found at some distance from where the body was discovered. He was about 75 years of age. MR. J. H. Lociri-; reeceived a. letter yesterday morning from his brother,Mr. Arthur Locke, Silver City, giving parti- culars relative to the death of their brother, Mr. Edwin Locke, to which reference has already been made in THF. GUARDIAN. From the letter it is learn- ed that deceased with a party of men was engaged in re-driving piles in a bridge on the Pacific Short Line R. R. in Nebraska. They were in the act of placing the pile driver in position when a line broke' allowing the driver to swing. In swinging it struck Mr.Locke onthe head killing him instantly. A companion was also struck and injured -it is thought fatally. The writer in dwelling on the nature of the acci- dent expresses the surprise as well as the :grief with which the announcement had been received, as ‘~he,” the deceas- ed, ‘-was one of the most cautious and cool headed men that ever lived."
