In the late afternoon and evening, headquarters was throngeci with officers of the big organization. and throughout the day District Chairmen and their Provincial District Committees were scouring Kings and Queens Counties for subscriptions to complete the $60,000 quota. of the Province outside Charh“ ‘ Memorial Chairman W. K. Roger: and Chairman S. A. McLeod of the Organization Com- mittee visited several Provincial Districts. They found that places which ilsd not yet turned in sub- scriptions had rolled up goodly to- tals and were prepared to begin re- porting to Allied Towns Chairman H. Hooper Horne. Captain D. J. Ril- ey, Chairman of the Belle River Committee, has more than $900 which he has not yet had time to report officially to the Allied Towns Committee. Chairman Roy C. Mc- Lean, Chairman of the Belle River Committee, has more than $900 which he has not yet had time to report officially to the Allied Towns Committee. Chairman Roy C. Mc- Lean of the Sourls Committee has at least $1,711, and it is believed he will add to it largely when he turns it in to Chalnnan ‘Home today. It has not always been convenient for some of the District Chairmen to re- port daily, but Chairman Horne and the Rev. H. D. Raymond, Vice Chair- man of the Allied Towns Committee. hope all the heads of the Provincial Districts will send in reports every day from now to Tuesday. Reports which canot reach Chairman Home by msil or messenger before three o'clock next Tuesday afternoon should be telephoned to him st 1094 or 1204. Information will be accepted for him at either number, or at his own number, 024. , As requested by District Chairman Edward Currie, Nine Mlle Creek and Cumberland have been merged with Long Creek. Mr. Currie is Chairman of the whole Long Creek District, with Mr. Daniel McPhee as his vice chairman for Cumberland. The quota, ‘for this district is $1,800, and it is predicted, that Chairman Currie will exceed it. so much inter- est in the campaign has been shown by Mr Currie as well es Mr. Mc- Phee that all of the Charlottetown volunteers look to them for brilliant achievements. They are known in this city as "the Willing Workers, Grit and Pluck." Another "captain courageous" is Chairman Lawson Jenkins, of the Mlllview District. His cheery smile and optimistic efficiency make him a welcome visitor at campaign head- quarters. In the some class are Chairman B. R. Brown of Little York and Chairman J. W- Fyfe of Emerald. Those gentlemen are call- ed "the Three Go-Getlera." Chair- man Frank M. Pldgeon of Victoria has been nicknamed appreclatlvely "the Bird of Victory." I-le is rolling up a wroiesome total in the Victoria.- Crapaud-Immpton District. Mr. Pid- geon is regarded by his business friends as s. bank manager of ex- ceptional ability and well-deserved popularity. They have a saying in Victoria, "If Frank Pidgeon says hell do it, it's done." Major A. S. Robertson of Bunbury, Chairman L. M. McKinnon of Morl- tague and Chairman McLean of Souris have the largest Provincial quctas-timoo- each. The Allied Towns Committee is watching with interest the gruelling race among the three. Chairman Robertson was de- iayed in starting by the Fox Show, and prcming " engagement; made Chairman McLean a little late in getting under way, so it is believed those two will have to travel fast to distance Chairman Mcliinnon. Moreover, the Montague standard- bearer has the resistance of an ex- tremely llvely Vioo Chairman, Mr. J. W. Murdock. Those three Chairmen are known n Charlottetown as "the Heavy Artillery of the Provhlclsl Campaign." All three have rich dia- tricts, and it promises to be a clone race. Chairmen Mcl-Iinnon and Vice Chairman Murdock have been slight- ly impeded in their work by persis- tent rumora of a local hospital In " ntague. Executive Committaemen in Charlottetown regard this story as s. canard. They point out that Mon- tlljll? cannot be expected to estab- lish and maintain a hospital of its own. Even if the whole of Kings County co-operated with Montague, it is asserted, the alleged project still would not be practicable. The senior hockey team won the Island charnponshlp title by defeat- iir; their old rivals, the Crystals. He paid a. tribute to the Executive and to the coach, Mr. Roy Prowse end congratulated the team. Intermediate hockey enjoyed a. successful season, although the team was eliminated in the Provincial finals by the Victoria Uaions. Baseball materiel was much im- proved through the games played un- der the City League schedule. The Abegweit team however were elimin- ated in the Maritime semi-finals by St. Agnes. Track and field work vuas not successful, due tolthe fact that there was not enough material, and that the committee devoted no time to it. Mr. R. A. The president extended the thanks of the executive to the treas- urer. , BASEBALL Mr. John Williams for the Baseball committee reported four exhibition games with Taunton and one with the New York Bloomer Girls. A few weeks prior to the play-off coaching began. The suggestion was made that a coach, in the future. be appoint- ed at the beginning of the season. Jvlk. Jack Sterne moved that the report be adopted. Dr. Yeo in seconding the motion stated that he thought that a great handicap to the game here was the lack of competition with mainland teams.
