Blair, for the murder of ‘John Armstrong, his esachman, after being out 97 hours, brought in a verdict of not guilty, and the prisoner was discharged amid the cheers of the spectators. Two vessels wor? also seized at Canning, King’s Co.,N. %., ou Weduesday, for smuggling. A Love Race.—It will be remembered, says the Port Hawksbury Beacon that last week we recorded the-arrival of the brig fanny, Capt. Murchinsou, at this port. The Fanhty lett on Wednesday last, and on the evening of the same day, the Servian, another square-rigge! brig, of which Capt. McDonald is commauder, came into port and has been conspelled to he here the whole week, because of northerly winds. It appears that these two vessels have, during the past year and a half, been runuing one long race—and until one of the brigs leaves her present employ and yoes inte some other trade, it is probable that they will continue to chase each other in this persistent way. Up to their arrival in this port we are told that they are about ties, and no matter in which direction the rival vessels were destined to sail, the distance has been gomputed, and records compared when they agaiu met, ouly to show that neither had the advantage. The first officer of the Servian is Mr. Charles E. McArthur, who was chief navigator, in former years, on board the aban man-of-war Virginive. The Servian and Funny are owned by Messrs Welsh and Owen, of Charlottetown. (#xack Ecerton and Mr. George Case, the eelebrated artists who are so extensively ad- vertised in our city, intend giving two of their unique cutertainaments in the Market Hall oa Monday and Wednesday, Oct. 27th and 29th. No doubt many ef our readers will remember Grace Egerton, who met with such euccess in Charlottetown in 1873. Since that time they have visited, almost every country where the Eoglish tongue is spoken, aud no artists ave achieved a more genuine success. They have leon universally received in all parts of the world most enthusiastically, and welcomed by crowded and delighted audi- ences, During the evening Mrs. Case, in a magnificent costume of Britannia—presented to her by the ladies of Bombay—will sing, **Here Stanis the Post,” and Mr. and Mrs. Uase’s: infant daughter, ‘‘ Dolly Dot,” aged seven years, will introduce two of the most popularsongs. There will be an entire chan of programme the second evening. As this will probably be the last entertainment we shall get this fall we have no doubt Grace Egerton will be greeted with a crowded house on Monday and Wednesday next, when most enjoyable evenings can be expected.
