Double Hanging Due Wednesday Al Frede_ri_clon ' (By The Canadian Press) FREDERICTON. July A5-—Thls quiet New Brunswick capital will Y experience its first double hang- ing in history and its first execu- tion in 24 years early Wednesday morning when two youthful Negro brothers go to the gallows fer the sordid hammer-slaying last Janu- ary of taxi-operator Norman P. Burgoyne. Rufus and George Hamilton. 22 and 23 years old respectively, were convicted in separate trials of the premeditated slaying. Burgoyne, 34-year-old Fredericton resident, was beaten to death and his body stuffed into the locked trunk of his taxi. , At their trials, the Hamilton brothers told how they had plan- ned to waylay, rob and murder Burgoyne. Evidence. showed that they took a hammer with them when they decided to hold up the taxi driver. Last week a hangman from Montreal arrived here to make advance arrangements. It was understood that the same gallows would be used on which Harry D. Williams died in 192.5 for the murder of his two young nieces. Not since then has there been an execution for murder in Fredericton. Unless there is a reprieve, the hangings of the Hamilton broth- crs will be the second and third to take place in York County in 118 years. MORELL C. W. L.
