Coy., 13th Platoon, 5th Brigade, East Sandllng, England, writes under date July 26:- This is a lovely country. I never saw such beauty in any place. The country is not naturally the place I like for attractive scenery, but the roads and paths and fields are so beautifully lined with shrubbery and hedges that it is like dreamland, and to see the care that the people take with their gardens and walks, every- thing glowing in every possible hue. Human skill and care cannot possibly 'do much- more than has been done. The towns are peculiar with their narrow crooked streets. but the clean- liness of them is a reproach to Cana- dian towns. How they manage to sweep the streets is a miracle, as you iseidom see a street sweeper at work, besides there is little room for his broom. Our nearest town is Hytlie, a little seaside town of about four Lhousand inhabitants. lt is a very pretty place. some of the parks and walks being simply charming. About four and a half miles from here is another sea-side place having a popu- lation of about thirty-three thousand. This place, Folkestone, is a great litm- mer resort, and you can imagine the crowds that come there. Everything is planned to please the eye and amuse the mind.
