"With regard to sport, tennis is the most popular among men as well as women. There are quite a number of flyihs clubs, where a few women and a host of young Indian men have proved themsel- ves able pilots. Though, on the whole, flying is still in its infancy as far as the Indian women are concerned. Most of the younger women are enthusiastlc.horsewom- en, and at school and college they play a great deal of hockey and basketball. Golf is one of the few sports whichvthey do not play, probably because of the heat. "There was a. tendency to wear European dress during the first years of their emancipation, bred by the desire to be inoonspicuous (especially overseas) and to merge themselves with the community, but in spite of the fact that tra- ditions that hamper are left in the background, sarls are worn both by women with careers who titko part in public life. and by women in the home.
