During the year wehscl the priv- ilege of presenting our Past Presi- dent Mrs. Rooney with a service pin for her two years of faithful service as President. The spiritual side of life, which is the most important of a.1l,our endeavours was taken care of in every possible way in our 8ub-div- lsion. Holy Mass was offered for the living members of the League on April 26th the Feast of “Our Lady oi Good Counsel." the members receiving Holy Communion in a body. And in November 9. Ester flowers were provided for our Altars. our mem- bers spend an hour oi recollection gue oi Souris Parish. Another year has passed. and as President, I have the honor to ad- dress the members of the Catholic Women's league of Sourls Parish.‘ The honor you so graciously con- ferred on me at our last annual meeting by electing me to the of- rice 0! Preside it by acclamation was appreciated. I have endeavoured to carry out every obligation as carefully and diligently as circum- stances could pennit, and I sincere- ly hope I have merited the con- ilden you have thus placed in me. On looking over the past year I feel that very definite pivogrem has been made towards our g3al—- that of uniting our women in that one great bond of fellowship for God and Canada. At our last an- nual meeting we had a member- ship of 40. today we have 114 mem- bers. but not until every Catholic woman in our parish is a member of the Catholic W’ome'n's League is our objective accomplished. In October of last year six units, comprising six school districts were organized by the Diocesan organiz- er, Mrs. Katherine Creamer. Five aie functioning and are doing ‘ex- cellent work, as you will hear each Convener report for her respective Unit; also a detailed report will be given by the Secretary, Treasurer. and Converiers of standing com- mittees. Despi-le general depression, it is gratifying to report that $571.71 was realized most of it was dis- bursed locally, leaving a small bal- ance on hand. All National and Diocesan Tax- es including per capita tax have been paid. Also a contribution to . at St. Mary's Convent on the First _Friday of every month, and to fos- ter Christian Doctrine prises are awarded deserving pupils; annual school prizes were donated. visits were made to the sick and infirm. The poor and needy of our Parish was not overlooked. groceries. cloth- ing for children and infants, med- icine for the sick, also school books for children: fruit and deli- cacies during the festive season were provided and other work which the Social senice Convener will give in her report. In October a miscellaneous shower was held in our League room when a box of useful gifts were forwarded to Rev. Leonard McDonald oi Brae, a. former Cur- ate of the Parish. Father McDon- ald very grateiuiy acknowledged this act from the members of his parish. In closing a year there is always a touch of sadness. for inevitable sorrow has touched the members of our sub-Division. I refer to the death oi a beloved member and former Treasurer Mrs. J. Wilfred Cheverie. The members went in a body to her home. recited prayers and had a. Mass offered for the re- pose of her soul. Two members have lost their husbands and must henceforth tread the lonely path; two have lost a brother and sister and one has lost a son; toall these bereaved, we offer our deepest sym- pathy. In January our hearts were saddened by the death of our be- loved King George. The event has cast a shadow over all the Empire. for he was doubtless the best loved King of all ages.
