Readers oi.’ The Maple Lea! will re- (member the story that Brother An- drew wrote about motoring through alay Peninsula, which was publish- ed in this mags ‘ n: a year ago. ‘My having read this wonderful exper- ience of this scholar in India made my visit doubly interesting. It the writer knows anything about the real significance of a. true education in character and conduct, he wTJuld say we need many such educators in Cai- iiornla and the West of Brother An- drew's type of personality. He main- tains, to say the least, splendid order and discipline and love for learning, no matter where he presides in a. seat of learning. Let us hope Brother An- drew will live to celebrate his golden jubilee in the Christian Brotherhood seven years hence. He is now enjoy- ing the best of health. Rev. John P. MacPhle, of Pasa- dena, is quite right when he says that the lower provinces will go down in history as the home of scholars and educatorsmany of them being in the Far West. Rev. Brother Andrew is one. In this day and age, when we read so much in the public press about our lack of morals and the increase o! crime, and disrespect for law and order, the kind of education that Brother Andrew represents should be- come at once a matter of great in- terest. The longer I live and the more I travel and observe, the more con- vinced I am that the foundation cause ol this awful wave of crime in “this country is simply this: American to a large extent has lost the Faith, materialism has grown rampant, and luxuries of all kinds take the place of worshipping God. Never in the world's history was a. generation of' men and women more intellectual, more enlightened, and more abun- dantly provided for research work of all kinds, than the present genera- tion, But never also, were people liv- sand educators oi’ Brother Andrewsi type and training to help establish! that something which brings God into. the home. Let us not forget also, that} the Christian Brothers‘ schools all‘ over the land are practical in the, sense o! training young men to fill splendid positions. What those‘. schools need is a more liberal endow- mcnt-R. E. D. STANDARD MINING EXCHANGE. Quotations furnished through cour-i tesy of l LOUIS M. ATWELL 8a CO.
