Farm Prices,& Market Report Following are excerpts from the weekly marketing report oi the Provincial Department of Agriculture: Farmers should arrange. at 1 very early date, tor their seed requirements it it is lelt that their own seed is, not suitable. it will be found llhat, due to dis- coloration. most of our need oats will be No. 2 grade. but that should not deter any producer from necurinvg this grade it its germination and its quality other- wise is satisfactory. Oats is still being picked up at around 65c to '70c per bushel. al- though some mills are paying 904: and better ior good iced grain. Oats has been sold at entirely too low a level this tall. and in view oi prices for Western grains there being paid for in many insinrc-s. Regarding the general picture on other seeds, alfalfa production will the less than one-half at that of 1930. and the snizulcat S1nCE 10t3. Harvesting conditions on the Prairies is the cause. On the other hand one of the largest crops of red clover seed on record is expected. and will be over three times as large as last year. There should consequently .be a small supply of good higli-quality red clover seed for sale. There 118.5 been a much larger production in the Maritimes than last. year, over six times the quantity being produced. On the other hand. alsike. which origin- ates in Alberta. is deiinitely down. It is also interesting to note that the production of tim- othy seed in Canada is only a lit- tle better than one-half that of the 1950 production. which. by the -way. was a record yield. The Mariiinies again report an increase over 1950. Two years ago there was a lot or timothy seed saved on Prince Edward Is- land-nol so much last year. It would seem to me that there is an important pi'orlucl.ion for this Provznce open and aviiila.-ble to our farm people in both timothy and red clover sccd. A saving of these products is a areal. insur- ance in term production as well as a great. saving in costs.
