their job is to report to their faculties, and report to the executive they must start doing so or they are a redundant part of the Union. Whether I am elected or not I would like to see the executive hold these reps accountable in some fashion whether it be a column, a monthly meeting, or a notice etc. President Amber Allin 1) -- I love UPEI, and take pride in it. — Challenging, an opportunity to do something! 2) -- Toimprove representation to the student body; eg. incorporate house councils. , — Improve the everyday life of the UPEI student, and find out what the student wants from their SU. — Lobby Provincial/Federal Gevernment using the collective —power of the Atlantic Region. 4) Crucial! A must in order to ensure Post Secondary Education is accessible to the majority of Canadians. Block funding brings with it a public relations war with other essential services, therefore we must use the collective power of the Atlantic Region when at all possible. 6) Regular informal meetings with regular coverage by the X-Press and CIMN. Kent Driscoll 1) In answer to why am I running, it would be to provide an accessible Student Union that responds to the needs of real students. The other main reason that.1 am running is that it is a very difficult time for students. The new budget has sent the responsibility for education funding to a provincial basis, and I feel that massive lobbying on a provincial basis is needed, and] am_ relentless in lobbying. THAKK YOU TS GeckF roe TW ew TeMAL F KENT 2) The main objective is trying to protect student funding at a provincial level. This means meeting with as many provincial M.L.A.’s as I can get to see me. A further objective of mine will be to make the Student Union more accessible to students, and to this end I will make it mandatory for Vice-Presidents (and the President) to serve two of their office hours in the Pit at the information desk (council members will be responsible for one houra week). I will be writing a weekly column in the X-Press, telling students what exactly I am doing for them. Another major point I would like to accomplish is to boost school spirit here at U.P.E.I. ‘ 4) I think lobbying with the government 1s essential, especially with the new reality presented to us by the — budget. Our provincial government is now responsible for the money that this university receives, and any govern- ment that breaks it’s own collective bargaining agreement will have no problem with making drastic cuts to student funds. i ee 6) As I had mentioned before, this is one of my main go 4 in running for president, keeping the students — Through a weekly column in the X-Press, man us - activating the student information desk in the Pit, I hop Fun Responses To liven things up a bit. we decided ‘to ask some very important questions to the candidates. The questions were: 1) If you were a kitchen appliance, \which one would you be and why? 2) If you could only have one piece .Of clothing in your wardrobe, what would it be, and why? We have included the most interesting and original re- sponses. VPO Cindy Venema ; 1) After much consideration, ! have decided that I would be a food processor. Why? Well, because I could injest many differesnt foods and blend them together into some- thing tastey and enjoyable. 2) It would be my pajamas, Without a doubt. I would wear my PJ’s all the time if it wasn’t considered abnormal. My reason is simple, they 4t¢ very comfortable! Darcy, Murphy % 2) If I had only one piece Of clothing, I would choose to have a watch, because it is important to get things done on time. Finley Martin 2) 1 would have a sock. Why? Why not? It worked for the Chili Peppers. VPI Tara Inman 1) T'would be a can opener. Why? So I could be to the Student Union what a can opener is to students -- indispensible! Korey Millar 1) I would be a kitchen stove/range because it can control the amount of heat, cook your meals, and shares a special relationshiop with the fridge, which preserves and stores our food! VPF Kelly Yeo 2) Bathing suit because I have nothing to hide. Andrea Pushka 2) No need to think about this one. It would definately be FROM THE DIRECTOR OF “RED ROCK WEST” DEMILISHILY ENTERTAINING? -Janet Maslin, THE NEW YORK TIMES OT Uae -SISKEL & EBERT BARU TTA -Peter Travers, ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE The ry ai rec Astra my navy blue sweater becasue not only have I had it since the dawn of time, but it has travelled with me throughout Russia, Europe and North America and still looks good! VPE Patricia Embleton 1) I would be a wok. Since it doens’t matter what ingredients you throw in, it all comes out great in the end. I think that I have the capablility to take things and make them all work together. Fidel Murphy 1) I would be a blender becasue I could cut through the cloud of mystery which many students seem to have about our Student Union. I could also put a positive spin on stores which are printed in the local press by giving them stories which show the positive effects of the university. Garry MacDonald 1) Although I may not often be found in the kitchen, I would be a vacuum cleaner. I like to move around, have myself heard, take it all in, and then bring it back ina bag. The only dust in this analogy is the stuff that will come off our student union when we bring it alive and start to use all of it. Science Rep Christine Poirer 1) First ofall, ] avoid kitchens at all costs, so | think | would be very unhappy as a kitchen appliance, but if I had to choose, I think I would like to be a radio, then someone could put me in a different room. 2)A sheet, sol could make it intoa different outfit everyday, and go to lots of toga parties. President Surprisingly enough, the presidential candidates agreed on both questions. Both wanted to wear sweatshirts: Amber -- a UPEI sweatshirt in any colour but green, and Kent -- his red hooded sweatshirt. Both also wanted to be coffeemakers; Amber, because she is perky and ch ipper to the last drop. Kent wanted to be a coffee maker because “it would be so much more easy to have all that fresh coffee dripping into me, as opposed to my current system, which involves getting a mug and drinking it.” Darcy Murphy, Finley Martin, Andrea Pushka and Kelly Yeo all want to be microwaves because they are fast and efficient.
