Following is the report. Of the lducation Committee: Madam President, officers and members: Prince Edward Island is blessed with an excellent educational sys- tem, the govemment providing free primary, secondary and high schools, completely equipped md having a most eepable and devoted tesching staff. Charlottetown has six graded schools tc accommodate the child- ren oi school ago and is also the seat of Prince of Walu College, a Jmior collegiate institution. st. Dunsts-n's Catholic University is situated in Charlottetown Royalty and woornmcdatea about 250 stu- dents taking advanced courses. Our Catholic children ere well provided for with two schools for girL1 taught by the Bisterl of the Congregation of Notre Dune and a school for boys with Catholic teachers prepared to provide cate- chism and christian doctrine in- stnictlon after the regular school hours. As far, therefore. as the educa- -tional committee of the C. W. Ii. could be helpful to our students it seemed now necessary to provide for their recreational and social, needs during thd sdhool year and the Catholic Collegiate Club was again re-organised in October, 1833. The Knights of Columbus again very generously accorded the Club the free use of its assembly hall and tho Thursday sftemoon busi- ness and cultural meeting and a weekly social and entertainment held each Saturday night. About eighty-five students of Prince of Wales College, Bt. Dun- stan'a University (day students) and tenth grsde high schools were enrolled and Mr. Gerard McKin- non (Bt. Dunstanlsl President; Miss Florence Me'hgue (Prince of Wald) Vice President: Miss Nun Leightizer (Prince of Weles) Bec- retary; and Miss Mary Buote (Prince of Wales) Treasurer. The speakers who generously gave of their time and talents to provide interesting and educative talks before i-he club were His Ex- cellency Blshop 0'Sullivsn, His Honor Judge Duffy, Profemor 0'- Bullivan of St. Dunstalfs Univers- ity, Mr. silvere Demoches, Barris- ter, 'M32 Sam Doyle, Mr. James Insightful' and Mrs. Jas. Coady of Emyvsle. Each weaker dealt with subject convincingly and enter- talningly eliciting the warm and hearty approval and gratitude of the students. A fund was created by the mem- bers unanimously deciding to fore- go the weekly refreshments served at the Saturday night social and after psyinr their legitimate ex- penses, opened an account in the Provincial Bank, depositing their surplus which gradually grew until before the Chrktmas holidays they had sixty dollars on hand. They donated forty-five dollars to the Archdiocese of Regina toward its debt fund, sending same to His Ex- cellency Archbishop Mcflulgsn, from whom they received a very appreciative reply expressing his gratitude for the gift and his greeting and blessing as ir fomier alumnus of both Prince of Wales and St. Dunstan's University' The Club also gave a small gift of $15 toward Knights of Columbus work in appreciative recognition of the generous action of the Knights in allowing the Club the use of its hall. Mr. McKinnon becoming ri boiirder after Christmas holidays in St. Dunstan‘s Universli.y, he re- signed the presidency and Mr. Thos. Peter; (St. Dunstanl Uni- versity) was elected to that office. At present the C. C. Club has a substantial nucleus in their bank sccount. and will dispense it in some useful way before they dix- pcrse after college closes. Mrs, Maclntyre of the education- al committee has attended all meeting; md socials and at Christ- mas time the club presented hr-r with a lovely and useful gift. thus showing their affection and appre- ciation of the C. W. L, and its ln- lerest in the gi-udents. During the Christmas holidays the town group held s social even- ing and contributed $17.75 to Char- lottetown Hoqrltal. 'lheee young folk are really eag- er and anxious to do good and help Catholic action, and while their field at prvsent must neces- sarily be a restricted one, yet with a kindly interest in them md in their problem, much may be se- eompllshed in directing their nat- ural desires and inclinations into channels of helpfulness and useful- ness so that when they ati-aln full maturity they will be A valuable aaset to church and state.
