The more of these symptoms shown, the greater the necessity for prc mpt treatment. Among those who have suf- fered from anemia and found a cure is Miss Emily Webb, young lady re-idiny near Wolverton, Ont. Miss Webb says : — My i-lness cameon whenI was about sixteen years of age. Every engineer knows what manilla hemp is, but few are aware that it is the product of a species of banana | which is cultivated in certain localities in the Philippine islands. The plant, called by the natives ‘‘abaca,’’ throws up a cluster of sheating leaf stalks toa height of 20 or 30 feet, which spread out at the top into a crown of huge un- divided leaves. When it is 3 years old, it is cut down and the stallts are torn into strips. These strips, while still fresh, are drawn between a knife and a wooden block, and the soft cellulose matter is removed. The fiber is then hung up to dry in the open air until it is fit for use. Each stalk gives about a pound of fiber, and two natives will turn out about 25 pounds a day. The inside fiber, which is thin and weak, is used by the natives for making urticles of dress. The familiar manilla rope is made from the fiber of the outer layer, which is hard and strong ‘ihe whole supply of manilla hemp practically comes from the Philippines, and the United States consumes 41 per cent of it. — ——em Asthma Gasps. Such suffering as rbeumati+m cauees the victim upon whem it fastens itself is almost unendurable. Only those who writbe under its pangs can imagine the joy of one who has been freed from its terrors. Mi.J. W. Fulkenbam, of New Elm, N. 8., is one of those who have been released from pain, and why believes it his duty to let others know iow a cure can be found. Mr. Folkenham is a farmer, and like al! who follow this arduous but honorable calling, is subject to much exposare. It was thie exposure that brought on his trouble and caused him so much suffering betore he was rid of it. He eays:—“Ia the spring of 1897 I contracted rheumatism. Throngbhout the whole summer I suffered from it, and about the first ot October it became so bad that I could not get out of the house. The pains were located in wy hip and back, and what I euffered can hardly be expressed . { became so helpless I could not dress myself without aid. Eventually ibe trouble spread to my hands and arms, and at times these would lose all freedom and become uselese. In November I began using Dr. Williams’ Pink Pills, and after tak- ing four boxes began to improve. After using six boxes the pains and sorensss had all gone and I was able to do a hard day’s work.
