bors succeeded in extingnishing the
fire. The roof and ole end of the
building were huined but the contents
were saved. Had it not been for the
accident of turning out so much earlier
than usual, no doubt all his buildings,
would -have been destroyed as the
wind was blowing in that direction.
The fire is supposed to have Ftrrted
trom a furnace used in the buildings.
THE new brick smoke stack for the
Electric Light Station was finished
Thursday evening, and the scaffolding
is now being removed. The structure
which is 90 feet in height was de-
signed by Mr. George C. Robb, Tor-
onto, Chief Engineer of the Boil r In-
spection Coy., of Canada, and built by
Mr. Frederick Blizzard, formerly of
Boston. The walls for the first 40 feet,
are 22 inches thick. the next 25 feet,
18 inches thick and the rimainder 12
inches thick, It contains about 50,000
bricks -manufactured by Messrs S. W.
Stiong& Co., of this town and is a
credit to the enterprising Electric
Light Co., as well as .an ornament to
Snmmerside. '
