H. -A. (ompton, Summerside, has
moved into his new store situated two
doors south of his old business stand.
The new building has been nicely
filled up _and finished throughout with
steel ceilings, Beaver board walls and
hardwood floors. Mr Compton has
fitted up new undertaking parlours in
the Fanning building next to his fur-
niture store, and will have associated
with him in this department his son,
Keith. who during the past winter has
taken a course in embalming.-X. `
CHILDREN’8 AID.-The monthly
meeting of_the Childrell’s Aid Society
was held in the City Court Room
Tuesday afternoon. The minutes of
the previous meeting were read and
approved of. The truant officer re-
ported seventy~seven cases of tru-
ancy last month. The cases _of cer-
tain boys were discussed and quite an
extended discussion followed regard-
ing the weakness of the law in respect
to truancy. Further consideration of
the matter was postponed until early
next winter, when an amendment to
the law should be prepared and sub-
mitted to the Government and Legis-
lature. The meeting then adjourned.
ADDRESS _TO MRS. ROGERS.-
Tlie regular sewing at the Armourics
yesterday afternoon ended very pleas-
antly. when Mrs. B, Rogers, who has
been a most indefatigable worker, was
presented by the ladies present with
in address telling of the appreciation
'n which her services were held by
hem, and how her earnestness, loy-
tlty and generosity, aided by her care-
-'ui guidance, had made these sewings
for patriotic purposes such a pleasure
o them all since the war had broken
nut. Genuine regrets were expressed
at her leaving Charlottetown as her
,presence had always been an incen-
tive lo greater efforts on their part.
Dainty refreshments were served and

..*EAST POINT FARMERS’ IN-
STITUTE.-A meeting of the above
society was held in Kingsboro Hall on
Monday night, April 5th. A goodly
number of the members were present.
,Mrs. S. S. Robertson presided, and
quite an amount of business was put
through. Among other things the
society decided on the purchasing of it
pure bred Ayrshire bull to be placed
in the above section. Now that the
Federal Government and Farmers' I-n-
stitute has placed pure bred animals

The passing away of Mrs. Mary Mc-
Kinnon, rcllet of Mr. Donald McKin-
non, whose death occurred on Sunday
'norning at her residence, McGill
‘\venue, removed another of Char-
'ottetown’s well-known slid highly re-
ipected citizens.
The late Mr. McKinnon, who is kind-
ly remembered by the older citizens.
was a prominent and successful citi-
len, having conducted a large tanning
business. Her father, the late John
McGill, was also one of the leading
citizens. Mrs. McKinnon was one of
the oldest members of St. James
Church, and when her health permit-
ted took an active interest in the var-
ious departments of church work. Her
sympathy and aid were given to every
good work, and in her death the com-
munity loses a most estimable Chris-
tian lady. She leaves three sons and
two daughters to mourn the loss of a
devoted and loving mother. The sons
are David at home, C. It., of Revel-
stoke, B. C., at present in Charlotte-
town. and Dr. Ivan, now at the front.

arrived in Charlottetown from Boston
last evening about (I o‘clock, with ten
passengers and a general cargo. This
is the first trip for the Halifax here
this season. She sailed on return last

Aubrey Bell, sou of Mr. A. F. Bell of
this city, who for some years has

tistry at Montague, left yesterday

cepted as a member of the Dentistry
Corps which will sail for the front .ill

Wesley Bell, also recently enlisted

Death entered Tryon on Saturday
last with startling swiftness when
Oscar Edwin, eldest son of l\tr. and
Mrs. Albert Mabey was drowned,
while fishing from t.he Aboitnau
Iiridge. ills hook became entangled
and in bending over the bridge to
diseniangle it. he lost his balance
and fell In. His brother, who was with
him, ran for his father. By the time
they reached the spot he had floated
under the bridge, and had come within
twenty feet of the bank`when»he suc-
cumed from exhaustion and sank he-
fore the eyes of his parents and sis-
ter. The body was found -a few, hours
later. Oscar was in hls_thll-teenth
year, and was one of the best known
and best liked boys of the community,
always courteous and polite, he was
ever ready to do an obligement for
anyone in need, and his cheerful good
temper made him a favorite at school
and home alike. Besides his father
and mother. there are left to mourn
two half sisters and six brothers and
one sister. The funeral took place on
Sunday from the Methodist Church
and the crowds that thro ed .the

A PATRIOTIC 8PIFIIT.- The Guar-
Jian has received from little Miss
Sally Allen, daughter of Mrs. Frank
Allen of Jackson, California, (former-
ly Miss Barrel. of this city.) $2 which
the little one had taken from her own
bank to be given to help the "hurted
soldiers." With true Canadian pat-
riotism, Mrs. Alien immediately sent
the amount to her home i at- city.
COUNTY COURT.-The June Term
of the County Court ot' Queen's
County met yesterday. There was
quite a docket of cases for trial, but
many of them went by default or were
settled without trial. Tile contested
ones, of which there are. several,
were put off until Thursday next, the
parties not being ready and Mr Smith,
the Clerk, being absent attending the
Methodist Conference, Judge Stewart
adjourned the Court until Thursday
next at eleven o'clock. It is said that
an application for naturallsatlon under
the new Act will como before the
Court for the first time.
LAID TO REST--The funeral of the
inte Mrs. Donald McKinnon took place
yesterday afternoon from her home
on McGill Avenue by train to Sher-
wood Cemetery, the services being
conducted by her pastor, Rev. Dr.
Fullerton. A very large circle of
friends gathered to pay their last re-
spects to the deceased lady who was
a general favorite and enjoyed a wide
circle of acquaintances. Many lov-
ily floral tokens were received giving
silent sympathy to the mourning fam-
ily. The pall bearers were Sir W. W.
l~‘ullivan,, Mr. Artemas Lord. Mr. Jas.
Eden, Mr. Ewen McDougal, Mr. .A. L.
Brown and Mr. Henry Aitken.

NEW INSTITUTION ORGGANIZ-
ED.- At the Julie Meeting of the
Kingsboro-Red Point Women’s Insti-
tute it was decided that two Institu-
tes would do better work than one
namely a separate institute for Kings-
boro and another for Red Point, thus
organizing a new one at each of these
places. The officers for the ensuing
year of the Red Point Institute are us
