BI ON Once more the family is broken by death, Whose subtle, hand breath, j By some insiduoas way and strange, That we call life, with its grief and change,— | Of « maiden gentle as the day beams bright, And given her a home in th’ land of light, Immortal joy beyond the shades o: night. smiiting Her years were few, and early crowned With th’ harvest of God’s grace, Like golden wheat-sheaves reaped and bound | Ere summer has run its race; Her prayers, like incense sweet ascended | Before the crystal throne of God's pure love, Her days, bedewed with affection, blended Fu!l early with unending life above. Her faith, triumphant o’er the fears | Of her young soul’s unsullied years, Made bright the lonely pathway of the tomb, | And threw ajar the pearly gates That lead to th’ land where flowers bleom, And the crowa of virgin gold awaits. Faith calms the grief and weeping wild Of those who mourn a darling child, And drying their sad and tear stained eyes, | They look t ey ond the starry skies To the happy bowers of Paradise, And see her ‘mid the angel throngs, And hear her joyful, seraph songs. unfading | i "lis better to die in the fest tleeting hours Of bright spring skies and budding flowers, | Before the innocerce of Ife Is stained‘ ere sin o ershadows truth, Or care and grief and wearing strife | Destroy the happiness of youth; *Tis better to sing amid the cherub choirs, Than gri w aweary from the world’s desires And jongings unfu'filled; ’Tis better to mcirge the morn of life, so blest, | As Ged has wisely willed, Into the perfect day of heaven's rest. Noma. May 28th, (Ve w Era plea e copy.) 4 Cardigan Bridge, Crop Reports. Report from every portion of the Norih- West go to show that seeding has been nearly completed in every locality, and that no interruption to operations have been experienced. In a few low lying places delay has been experienced, but these are not numerots, and represent but asmail area altogether. Old settlers in all districts state that they scarcely remember ci a w.ore favorable seeding time, and that ! 80 far the prospect of an abundant crop this season are good. The area sown will be at least one half greater than last year, while at least three weeks has been gained in time. In several localities slight warm showers have fallen, and in such places the outlook is very promising. Grass has also made rapid progress, and grazing is already fair in several -districts. Altogether the agricultural prospect is of the most cheering description. } ' The report of the United States Agricul- tural Bureau, recently made public, esti- mates the falling off from last year in the winter crop at 123,000,000 bushels. Later intelligence from Western Ontario counties show that the fall wheat has been badly winter killed over a great extent of country. The crop, it is now said, is almost entirely ruined in Essex, in Huron and in parts of Middlesex. It is believed that fully half the ground will have to be resown with some kind of spring grain, and the re- mainder is by no means a full crop. What makes matters worse, the majority of farm- ers hold to the opinion that spring wheat will not do on fall wheat ground. The great bulk of the land now ploughed up will have to be sown with barley, oats, or kind- red grain. Horsford’s Acid Phosphate AS A BRAIN FOOD. Dr. S. F. Newcomer, M. TESTIMONIALS. The following are a few testimonials from a list of several hundred : — .. The capacity of the Stove is surprising. With a No. 8 Stove we cooked for a party of seven, giving them broiled oysters, steak, lamb chops, and baked biscuit, in 45 minutes, at a cost for gas of 4} cents. On another occasion we gave a dinner in courses of twenty men, the bill of fare as follows ; Broiled shad, beef steak, roast quarter of lamb, baked biscuit and coffee; heating the water for washing the dishes tour times, re-setting the table three times. All was accomplished in one hour and forty minutes, at an expense for gas of eleven cents. This work was ail done on one No. 8 stove. All were enthusiastic over the manner in which the oysters, fish and meats were cooked ; none had experienced any so tender, juicy, and of such full flavor before. We consider the stove a great success, and most ; complete in all its parts and arrangements 1883. ‘EXHE imported thorough-bred Percheron- Norman Stallion “ROMULUS,” Registered Pedigree in Norman Stud look, page 2313, vol. 3, imported direct from France via New York, on the !7th April, is sired by the celebrated Stallion ‘“*ROMULUs,” winner of first prize and Gold Medal over all] other Stallions at Universal Expos'tion, Paris, 1878, was foaled in 1879. C, Woon, Supt. I bought one of your No. 12 Gas Cooking Stoves last September, for use in my restau- rant, and have used it ever since for baking, broiling and stewing. I can say for it that it is always ready and does its werk rapidly; that there is no dust, no dirt, no surplus heat, as we are using only that portion that we need, and as soon as the article is cooked the gas is extinguished and there is no waste. I think it will do the same amount of work at less cost than coal, even at the high price of gas. It takes much less room than a coal range that would do the same work. I am perfectly satisfied with it and would not be without one for double the price, from the vats, samples of their Lorne Highland Whisky, and have subjected the to careful examination and analysis, The samples were very frayrant, mellow, snd of pleasant flavor, and possessed all the characteristics of pure and well- matured Scotch Whisky of the first quality,” ‘Arruur Hivt, Hassatyt, M. If my testimony is of any value to you, you are at itberty to use it. The decrease in the coal bili more than offsets the increase in the gas ditto. The cocking is exellent and uui- form ib its operation. No dirt or duct irritates the careful house- wife, and Mrs. 8. describes it as a “‘yeal treasure.” In my humble opinion, any man who really Wants tu add to the number «f allotted days of his better-half, had b+ trer invest in a Gas Stove and save her worry, and himself ex- pense. W. H. Srymovr, We are perfectly delighted with our Gas Stove. It giv:s entiie satisfaction in every respect. Mrs. M. Pexnixerton, 2103 Vine St, Your favor of the Ist inst. was duly received asking my opinion of the Gas Cooking Stove bought last May, and in reply, would state that the satisfaction rendered by the stove was far beyond my expectations, and the work it will accomphsh is marve lous, together with the small expense and comfort attending the same.
