The Guariflan, Charlottetown, Tues., Feb. 2, 1965. SPORTS FRONT “Black Hawks Top Montreal By JIM CULLEN The Chicago Black Hawks pulled to within two points of the jeague leading Montreal Canadiens as they blanked the ‘Flying Frenchmen’ 3-0 in the Chicago Stadium, Sunday night. This was the third shut-out of the season for young Dennis Dejordy be- tween the pipes for the Chicago pucksters Kenny Wharram, the diminutive winger from Ferris, On- tario, scored the winning goal for the Hawks at the 16 minute mark of the opening frame when he beat Montreal's Lorne ‘Gump’ Worsley with a fifteen footer. Doug Mohns, just recently back in the Hawks line-up, picked up an assist on Wharram’s goal and the former members of the Boston Bruins dented the twines in the Montreal cage twice before the final siren went to skate off the ice with a three point night The ‘Golden Hawk’ of the Billy Reay coached outfit hasn't acored in his last five outings with the Hawks, but neither Hull nor his coach are worried about the situation Bobby maintains that he is playing well and that as ‘ong as he keeps plugging away he will break out of his slump and start blinking the red lights around the National Hockey League, again. Billy Reays says Bobby is playing as well now as when he was scoring goals and that it tires the other teams out just trying to contain the ‘blond bomber’ of the Black Hawks The ‘scooter line’ has apparentiy taken over where Hull left off in the scoring department as they have accounted for 10 of the Hawk's markers in the team’s last six outings. Doug Mohns has apparently found the*range and he and Wharram have what we think is the best pivot man in the National Hockey League today in the person of Stan Mikita We would like to see this New York club do something about their goal production,.as we don't relish the idea of the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League playoff pic- Kgure. but the Abelmen are apparently able to came up with enough .vicleries to. keep them in the playoff.picttire. Perhaps the Rangers should send some of their forwards to Florida for a couple of days and hope they would come back with the same inspiration that the trip to the south provided Detroit's Roger Crozier The Black Hawks will tangle with the New York Rangers tn Madison Square Garden tomorrow night and we think you will see Bobby Hull! break out of his scoring slump against the Blueshirts Tid Bits From Here And There _ qohnny's Flying Hawks with Allie Carver at the helm will travel! to Murray Harbor to battle with the Murray Harbor Bruins in an exhibition contest. Action is scheduled to get underway at 8:30 The Dr. Wen MacDonald curling foursome coasted through the men's provincial Senior curling bonspiel at the Charlottetown Curling club, last week. The MacDonald foursome will travel to Port Arthur, Ontario to represent this prévince in the National Senior spiel which will get underway March 22. We think the local foursome should be a top choice to capture top honors in the Dominion championship St. Dunstan's High School paced by the two goal performance of Billy Weatherbie handed Rogers Rangers their first defeat in Charlottetown and District junior league competition. They downed the Rangers 4-2 at the Charlottetown Forum, Sunday afternoon. Speedy Cecil MacDonald scored the winning marker for the Red and White squad at the 8:05 mark of. the final stanza. v Congratulations to the Dave Matheson curling foursome from Prinee of Wales college in capturing the provincial Schoolboy Cur! Championship at the Belvedere Golf and Winter club, Sati . Matheson came from behind to defeat lan Wolfenden in a thgilling 10 end match to-cep the championship and the right to represent the Island in the Dominion championships nich will be staged in Fredericton, this season. 9! « By AL COLLETTI unanimous on all three of the NEW YORK (CP)—Floyd Pai- officials’ cards. terson took all of George Chu-' The Canadian Press scorecard valo'’s bruising body blows and gave Patterson six rounds and with a dazzling exhibition of Chuvalo five, with one even. sharp-shooting piled up enough points Monday night to defeat ithe Canadian heavyweight champion from Toronto in a 12- round bout at Madison Square Garden that had a sellout crowd of 19,100 cheering to the end.
