ABIJAH BURN! -The death of Mrs. Abljah Burns, which occurred at her home on Thursday, October 16th. was heard of with regret by friends in Freetown and vicinity. Mrs. Burns had almost. reached her ninetieth year and had been in failing health for the past few months. Her husband predeceased her eighteen years ago. The funeral. which was very I . largely attended, was held on Sat- urday afternoon from the home and burial was in the Church of Scotland Cemeteryf Cape Trav- erse, with the Rev. Harvey Bishop and the Rev. Mr. MacEwcn con- ducting the services. Left to cherish her memory ill the home are her son Stewart, his wife Eva, and grandson Morris; also a brother. James MacKay of Desable. The beautiful floral tributes bore testimony of the love and esteem in which the deceased was ehllt. The sympathy of all.i:. being, ex- pressed to the sorrowmg relatives. Mrs. Mann explained that the special meeting was called to dis- cuss and formulate plans for a chicken slipper. Mrs. l.. G. Ram- say moved that the Women's In- stitute sponsor a chicken and ham supper and canvass those who are not members of the W. 1., to contribute towards same, all proceeds to be given for the new school. Mrs. Russell Campbell seconded this and from a stand- ing votc the motion carried.
