effective under ADPI. To help make the transition go smoothly $13,000.00 was given to Mann House from their fourth quarter. Sister Anne Gillis has reservations about the program being run under addiction services. She has been given no guarantees that the program run by ADPI will be run the same as the program offered by Mann House. When asked about the program Mr. Cheverie affirmed this saying he can not guarantee a program the same as the one offered by Mann House but feels that ADPI will do it’s best for chemically dependant women. I questioned him on a quote from a chemically addicted woman who had gone through a treatment center program. (Quote taken from Support Services for Women in Recovery from Chemical Dependency on PEI. Mann House 1990). "The only time I mentioned the abuse was in a (treatment) group of thirteen, twelve of whom where men...] was sent to a Psychiatrist for aversion therapy, which was an extremely degrading, traumatic experience for me." When asked if ADPI could guarantee that this kind of treatment doesn’t happen again Mr. Cheverie couldn’t give any guarantees because no one knows what kind of program will be run or how. There is hope that the board of Mann House will give their input about the program. How smooth will the transition be, Mann House is no longer taking referrals, no program has yet been set up to replace Mann House, and no one seems to know how or when the program at ADPI will be in place. I can’t answer these questions now but keep reading for an update and I will keep you posted.
