On Tuesday morning, the business' of the Bank _ of Nova Scotia was resumed under new conditions in the remodelled building on the corner of Richmond and Gt. George streets. Yesterday a GUAR- DIAN representative visited the new banking house in order to get an idea of just what had been done, and through the kindness of Mr. D. Fettil, Torbneo the superintendent representing the architects, he was shown through the building. As the writer entered the bulld- ing he .was impressed with the massive mahogany doors three inches thick, with Yale locks and old brassytiulsh. Tlievesti- bule doorsare 3) inches thick and hung with double action Chicago butts and have Yale furniture with bower barif. The ceiling has a dome in the centre and beams running to the walls, dividing it up into panels, finished at the walls with cobbles. The walls are plastered with sand finish and the upper floors are carried on heavy steel beams, supported by seven inch iron columns with moulded caps. The whole of the upper sashes are glazed with luxier prisms, made hy the Luxfer Prism Company of Toronto. ’ The prisms double the light and distribute it around the rear of the omce, making t_he light very -even. The lavatory and cloak room atfthe rear is lined all around with Tennessee marble to the height ot seven feet and is equipped with plumbing ot the most modern de- scription, and along with the floor of the banking room is of polished maple. The manager’s department on the corner and on the two sides is formed with mahogany screen walls filled with chipped plate glass. This is to prevent the public seeing who is in conference with the manager. The whole ofthe fillings are of mahogany. The plan of the main business depart- ment is octagon with public space in the centre, having a cheque desk covered with plate ziass top, supported on columns and cn-ved brackets. The base or me .nr- ,ferent dttings is of Rouge Royal Mu-ble, The floor in the public space is laid with mosaic tile, the body being made gf a deep red and relieved by tiles of a light- er shade.
