For wage grades all earnings shall be subject to a. reduc- tion of two and a half per cent. with a further reduction of two and a half per cent. on earnings exceeding $10 rates, Sunday rates and overtime here. There are reductions of night rates, which will have a big effect on the men's earnings. Day over- tirnc and night cluty rates are cut ten per cent. Night overtime rates ore cut sixteen and a half prr pent.‘ overtime rates. There i: provision for maintaining a mlnilnuni wage at $10.25. _ ' Salaried grades suffer a reduction c! two and ahalf per cent. with a further reduction of two and a half per cent. on earnings exceeding $50!) a year. Figures are not yet avail- able to show the total earnings that workers will lose and that companies will gain. At a rough guess the re- ductlon in earnings of wage earners will average five per cent., but men like shunters and drivers and guards cf goods trains who do a good deal of night work will lose a bigger per- centage. The award of the national board is ‘ unanimous and though there may be loud protests, it is likely to be accepted by both sides. The men have the comfort of knowing that though they Iuffer fairly severe re- ductlons, they are, not nearly as drastic as those which were proposed by the companies. The men retain a guarantee of n week's employment and week's wages. They have no fear of short time, such as is experienced in other in- dustries, and their retention of the guaranteed week is hailed as an 1m- fportant victory. nlfisfockfiklilrknrs 1 joyed themselves. suing from her brother Ml".
