What do we get for it? Well, we do indeed ben- efit from the investment— if we want to. It is up to each student to take advantage of what is offered. CFS is a student associa- tion of which we, UPEI Stu- Over 40 other post-secondary insti- dents, are members. Now that classes are back in full swing and some of the initial chaos of “Back to School” has subsided, we would like to take this oppor- tunity to write a bit about the recent and successful Frosh Week ’87,. After a summer of end- less meetings and many long hours of work, Frosh Week finally arrived on Monday, tutions across Canada enjoy CFS membership and thus the benefits. The actual ben- efits are varied and numer- ous and include: travel dis- counts and planning, work abroad programs, Political representation, iobbying aid and the student discount pro- gram, Student Saver, to name a few, The Student Saver dis- count program is a_ very large national program with the purpose of providing dis- counts on everyday products and services that the student may use. in Charlottetown have agreed Several businesses to give a specified discount on their products or services to any student who presents a student saver card at pur- chase time. The card is of credit card size and is available to all full- time UPEI students at the Student Union office in the Barn. Many of us received Saving money with Student Saver the card and an information booklet on registration day in September. If you didn’t re- ceive yours, march down to the SU office at the Barn and get it. Why bother? Because four bucks is four bucks and you can get it back— albeit How? By using the card. For example, buy a pair of shoes at LePage Shoes, indirectly. one of the stores signed up on the program, for $40.00 and get the 15% discount of- fered through CFS. You save $6.00 off the shoes and have already gotten back the $4.00 you paid for CFS by your stu- dent fee. Day two of Frosh Week began early Tuesday with ini- tiations. This proved to be a fun-filled activty. sis was put on group fun Empha- and not individual embarrass- ment. This was followed by a Walk Rally on campus which was very helpful for the Frosh in finding ther way around UPEI. Olympics took place on MacAdam fieid in the afternoon. The afternoon ended with a hudge barbeque for Frosh and faculty which was hosted by our president, Dr. Eliot. Tuesday evening was a Frosh dressed up as they were in an- other life. The Frosh proved to be honest and imaginative big success as the group. Although the weather on Wednesday was wet and cold, this did not dampen the spirit of the °87 Frosh as they broke all previous UPEI Shinerama totals. The hardworking stu- dents raised over $6100 for the Cystic Fibrosis Founda- tion. That evening the Frosh celebrated their success at the Barn as they bopped to PEI’s own Rock Island Blues Band.
