~ THE DAILY BHZAMINER., | SEP ‘The Salvation Army. ADVANCE AND ASSAULT LINE —MISCELLANEOUS A GENERAL ALONG THE MUSIC—TESTIMONY OF A THREE WEEKS | said he wasa faithful backs|ider—a back- SOLVIER—“ROLL THE oLD CHARIOT ALONG.” The Salvation Army on Sunday had its usual muster, procession, kneel drill, attack on Satan’s kingdom. The muster took place at the Barracks, Little Richmond-street, at 715, Lieut Nellie Kiezer in command. At that time there were about 100 persons in the Hall. Childrenwere rusning up and down the gallery steps where the soldiers sit. the fifer Was engnged in trying afew of his favourite airs. A boy with a mysterious instrumest ol awful discord, calied the ocarnia, was making the place hideous with din, soldiers were merrily, @ girl with the tambourine now and again manifested her deftness with that pecu- lar instrument, the cymbals udded their quota to their unharmepious proceed— ing, and the scraping of fiddles out of tube completed the mixture of discor- dant sounds, At iasteome kind of order was brought out of the chaos, the band struck up a lively tune, and afew soldiers followed with When the battle’s over, We shall wear 4 crown Inu the New Jerusalem, Lieut. Kiezer now entered the bar- racks rapidly marched up the aisle, gave the tambourine a dexterous thramp, advanced to the front, knelt down, and prayed briefly that the Lord would be with them in their parade, give them a good meeting, and save precious souls, The procession was then formed and the streets were par- aded. When the party returned Lieut. Kiezer commenced My sins are wasbed away By the blood of the Lamb. The triangle chimed in slowly, the fidles doubtingly fellow, and cymbals erash in, but still there was an evident lagging. All the soldiers were not singing, and only a few of the audience joined in. The leader then called for “knee drill,” and her invecation was direct to the point. “Oh, Lord,” said she, “we are glad we are here to-night. Weare glad we are in Thy company. We are glad to be with Jesus, and we ask Thee to come right down among us. Oh, God Almighty, come in our midst to-night. Ohcome in our midst to-night and save sinners here Oh come to- night and speak right totheir hearts and wash away all their sins. Help them Lord to come to Thee te-night,and confess Thee before this meeting, and take right hold of Thee by faith, Ob, Lord, save souls to-night here for Jesus and chattering sake.” Lieut. Nellie Keizer then mouated the platform and commenced singing :-— 1 heard the voice of Jesus say Come unto Me and rest, She was dressed in a tight-fitting scarlet cloth jacket, if, if did net show her tobe the “glassof fashien,” de- monstrated that she was not far from the “mould of form.” Several more players followed, interspersed with various songs which were more or less heartily joined in by the audience. READING THE WORD. The Lieutenant then announced that she weuld read Isaiah lv., and in doing so she interspersed remarks, ‘Seek ye the Lerd while he may be formed, You will wish some day that you bad come if you neglect this great Salvation. Come now to-night, while you are in our health ane strength, and seek the oo. I am gled He is here to-night— bless bim(amen ),° For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways. Now, there are a great many of you waat to get saved in your own way. It may be right at home, when nobody but you and God are there; but Jesus says here. * My ways are not your ways. Oh call on Jesus to-night and get saved. ‘The mountains and the hills shall break forth before you ito singing, all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.’ That will bea noisy meeting when the mountains start into singing and the trees clap their hands. You think the Salvation Army is noisy, but when we get up yonder there we will then start into shouting,” HOW TO PROVIDE THE BANQUET. The Lieutenant then gave out the announcement relating to the first an- niversary ef the Salvation Army in Canada, and asked for contributions in jink. “ The people will \be hungry,” said she, “and I want you to send on your contributions, ne matter what it is, and the Lord will bless you. You come here Sunday after Sunday and are getting good all the time, and you ecught to send something, no matter what it is—-a barrell of flour, a cow or a pig. (Laughter,) If you cannot send something give us some money. We Salvation folks havn't got a cent— I know I havn’t—and you people have gotito pay for these barracks.” A dollar was handed up, and for a time the giv- ing flagged, * Be careful that God don't make you pay a great dector’s bill, for you know that all that you got belongs te him.” The money eame 2 littie more freely, and she sang :— Roll the old chariot along, It the dovil's in the way roll it over him HOPE FOR ALL, Experiences were thon the order of the day, and a soldier of three weeks’ standivg gave an intelligent staternent ef his experience, and strongly urged the many oung men ‘in the audience who knew him to give ther | hearts | febled conditions, one pill three times a day. to Jesus. Another exhorted singers to give the Lord a trial, “ for,” said he, “the devil will take you back any time you want to go.” Another slider from the devil. I believe the devil has got very little show among the Salvation Army. The Lord can save everybody, andif the devil was to turn God would save him.” after these ex- assult was madeon the pressions an was spread out in people, the Army skirmishing order, What wonders God to us hath given, Salvation wires from earth to heaven. was sung, and a general jubilee closed the proceedings, The hall was about | three-fourths full, this comparatively | small attendance being due possibly to| the fact that there wasa_ silver collec. | Lion at the door. —— a <i Cem —— fhe Great French Remedy, LeDue’s Periodical Pills. He has been a great sufferer from Scrof- ula, and the inclosed letter will tell you what a marvelous effect Ayer's Sarsaparilla has had in his case. I think his blood must have contained the humor for at least ten years; but it did not show, except in the form of a scrofulous sore on the wrist, until about five years From a few spots which ap- peared at that time, it gradually epread 80 as to cover his entire body. 1 assure you he was terribly afflicte, and an object of pity, when he began using your medicine, Now, there are few men of his age who enjoy as good health as he has. 1 could easily name fifty persons who would testify to the facts in his case. Yours truly, W. M. PHILLIPS.” “Tt is botha FROM THE FATHER: jiecscare ana a duty for me to state to you the benefit I have derived from the use of Ayer's Sarsaparilla. Six months ago I was completely covered with a terrible humor and scrofulous sores, The humor caused an incessant and intolerabie itching, and the skin cracked &0 as to cause the blood to flow in many places whenever I moved. My sufferings were great, and my life a burden. I commenced the use of the SARSAPARILLA in April last, and have used it regularly sinee that time. My condition began to improve at once. The sores havo all healed, and I feel perfectly well in every respect — being now able to do a good day’s work, although 73 years of age. Many inquire what has wrought such a cure in my case, and I tell them, as I have here tried to tell you, AYER’S SARSAPARILLA, Glover, Vt., Oct. 21, 1882. Yours gratefully, HIRAM PHILLIPS.” ago.
