Acadia Work For Season Fresh from the task of paving the way for further advancement in charting the north shore of the St. Lawrence, the Canadian Hydro- graphic Service ship Acadia, un der the command of J. U. Beauche- min, arrived in port Monday on her way to her home port, Halifax. From the time the Acadia left Hali- fax in June till the latter part of last month, the weather was excep- tionally bad on the north shore of the Gulf, not only for hydrographic surveys, but also for the coast wise shipping. Nevertheless, more than 80 milesof coast was thoroughly surveyed including five harbours along the stretch. With-the com mander are associated six trained hydrographic engineers from Ot- tawa, also Captain F. V. Ryan, as master and pilot, son of Captain Ryan, harbour master, of this port and J. S. Cann, Halifax, as chief engineer. The Acadia has been on Hudson Bay and Straits for three seasons in connection with the de- velopment of the new northerr route. During her three years sta; in Hudson Bay and Straits, all th approaches from Cape Churchill tc about 80 miles north of Churchill, were charted.
