tic touch. Yes, my brother, you can
artistically and aesthetically as well
as spiritually beautify your physical
body. You can surrender it, in the
name of Jesus Christ, to be made
over entirely anew to his service.
A strong temple! A clean temple:
\A beautiful temple! We have been
describing them all. But, after all.
what is a temple? A temple is a
building dedicated to the worship of
a deity. Its four walls inclose a
holy place in which that deity is
supposed to dwell.. Each temple is
supposed to be the personal property
of an individual divinity in the same
sense as a man’s house belongs to
him when the`titlo deed is not only
put in the family safe, but also re-
corded among the county records.
If this be true what is the next
step? Why, each temple should have
wi"-¢<e- -rw -..-
a day when it is publicly dedicated
to the Deity for whom it is built.
When the Solomonic temple was to
bo at last dedicated tho king made
the service one of national import.
He assembled in one place all the
officers and men-of state, and on that
occasion he sacrificed 120,000 sheep
and 22,000 oxen.. The rivers of b10od
which flowed from that altar signify
io us how great an 0¢¢8Si0n thot de*
dication must have been.
_ Now, my brother, it is right and
proper that every' temple should be
publicly dedicated. When are you
.going to publicly dedicate your
temple, your physical body, to the
service of Jesus Christ? This body is
a priceless treasure which we should
oder him. How~ precious it is but
few can fully appreciate unless they
lose part of their physical anatomy.
The hand-it has carried for us many
burdens; the foot-it walked _for us
many miles; the tongue--it has ex-
pressed for us many a want. When
'are you going to dedicate this body.
.this old body of yours, to Jesus

to Christ, so that he may give it
divine rejuvenation?
I never wish to hear a man make
n slighting remark about his physi-
cal body. Never say, as do so
many, "oh, I do not care what bv-
comes of my body after I am dead!°’

After the everlasting, unconditional
covenant made with David concerning
his son, who would be Isl'uel`s Messltlll,
and the kingdom of righteousness, as
‘Corded in our last lesson in this book
(chapter vii). we read of David`s great
D_l‘0Sperity and righteous reign (viii, 15).
Then comes the record of his great sin
and repentance, the sin of Amnon and
his death at the hands of his brother
Absalom, after which Absalom fled to
the king of Geshur and remai_ned there
three years, but through the pleading of
the wise woman of Tekoa, employed by
Joab, he came back to Jerusalem and
dwelt two whole years without recon-
¢iliAtion to his father, after which,
through Joab’s intercession, the king
became reconciled to him, saw him
and kissed him (xiv, 28, 33). Absa-
lom signifies “father of peace,” but his
conduct suggests one who is of his fa-
ther the devil (John viii, 44). The
kl.ng's kiss to Absalom was the loving
kiss of a heartbroken father welcoming
his errlng son, but the kiss of Absalom
(if he did kiss his father) was like the
kiss of Judas when he betrayed his
Master. This is the third time in fpur-
teen years that we have had this por-
tion of this chapter assigned as a lesson
lnstead of the much more helpful and
luxgestlve portion following, but we
are asked today to study verse 23,
which ls some improvement.
The story of Absalom is one of de-
ceit and lying and treachery and rebel-
lion even against his own father. Per-
haps there wss no one more wicked.
His unscrupulous self seeking, even at
the cost of his father’s life, is sugges-
tive of the devil, who would if possible
dethrone God, and who will yet seek to
do so ere the age closes. Make a care-
ful and prayerful study of the follow-
ing passages and be ever on your guard
against all such manifestations. Isa.
xiv, 18, 14; Dan. vii, 25; viii, 24, 25; xi,
86; II These. li., 3, 4; Bev. xiii, 5-7; xvli,
14; xix, 19, 20. There are many fore-
shadowings on a small scale-poliih
clans who will not take up a matter
without drst considering how lt may
affect their own political prospect;
those who, for their own ends, by good
woods and fair speeches, deceive the
hearts of the simple; those who under
pretense of worshiping God have only
in view their own promotion and possi-
bly the overthrow of some just person.
How desperately wicked must have
been the heart of Absalom, who, with
profession of devotion to God on his
lips and his father’s blessing sounding
ln his ears, goes forth to carry out his
devilish designs against his father. Yet
there is an ever increasing multitude
who are disobedient to parents and in
open rebellion against God (II Tim. ill,
1-5). But as truly as David returned
and sat on his throne in peace (xix, 14)
so shall our Lord Jesus return and reign
 Dav1d’s throne, and 'the work of
righteousness shall be peace and the
effect of righteousness quietness -and
assurance forever (Isa. lx, 6, 7; xxxii,
17). There are many ahithophels (fool-
ish brethren, the' name signifies) who
stand high before men in relation to the
king, but who, while outwardly profess-
ing allegiance, are really on the side of
the -enemy. Let us turn from the dark
picture of self and sin to the faithful
few who said to David in this dark
hour, “Behold thy servants are reach
to do whatsoever my lord the king
shall appoint,” and to Ittal, who said,
“As the Lord liveth and as my lord the
king liveth, surely in what place my
lord tho' king shall be, whether in death
or life, even there also will thy servant
be” (verses 15, 21).
To mere natural sight it looked dark
for David, but God had promised that
the kingdom would be established for-
ever, and there 'were some who had
faith in God and were also ready to die
with David rather than live with Ab-
salom. The tlme was, and in China
only two years ago, when to live meant
to deny Christ, but many confessed

of those who deny Christ in order to
live and the future of such as die for
