There is no talk of baseball or softball in Summerside so far this spring. Baseball has suffer- ed a slump in the capital city, too, but at least, they haven’t called it quits. They are still struggling along in the face of poor attendance to keep the game of baseball alive. In the last five or so years they have developed a very fine softball league which attracts consider- able fan interest the winners each year are able to put up a respectable showing in Maritime competition, and their caliber of play is improving every year. Is there any good reason why summerside should not be able to do the same? Softball is an ideal sport for times when fans cease to come to the parks in large numbers. The expense of keeping up a softball team is not nearly so high as is the case in baseball. and because of this clubs can operate in the black without a great deal of fan sup- port. Here in Summerside if we could get a league organized it would give us at least one fife- tator sport for town fans, nd the standard of play would im- prove as it has in Charlottetown Bad Weather Plagued Meet SALEM, N.H. Racing Driver Died Monday VERVIERS, Belgium (AP)- British auto racer Archie Scott- Brown died Monday from burns suffered in Sunday’: Spa Grand Prix when his Lister - Jaguar skidded off the road and burned. Brown, 31, was the wonder of the racing world. He was born with no fingers on his right hand. Driving a car, even for pleasure, appeared unlikely. But the little man—only five feet tall—liad the V skill with one hand that made ‘him the envy of many of his more fortunate rivals. British officials originally were doubtful about permitting him to drive in the top events. They re- fused to let him enter the British Empire trophy race in 1953 be- cause of his disability. Later the officials changed their minds. Scott-Brown competed and won the Empire race for sports cars in 1955.
