STEWART AREA Application Heard By Board of Public Utilities ~ Decision Within Few Days. The Board of Public Utilities heard an application by the Mari- time Electric Company for per- mission to supply the village of Mt. Stewart with electric current at o. meeting there on Saturday. The application was token under consideration by the Board and a decision would be given within s Raw days, Mr. L. B. Miller. chairman of the Board, announced. First part of Saturday's session was devoted to consideration of a resolution passed by a meeting at Mt. Stewart early in November. The resolution asked the Board or Public Utilities to compel the Maritime Electric Company to sell electric current to Mr. Fred Lear-d who in turn would retail at to Mt. Stewart residents. The resolution was adopted by a tonsil group of residents who had been receiving their supply of fluulriulLy from Mr. beard, who for the past ten years operated a small hydro pant. some of the equipment in the plant was wearing out anti Mr. Leard was dosing down the plant, it was explained. Cost of current delivered by the plant had been rgnall but the service was sometimes not entirely satisfac- tory. Mr. Miller‘ informed the meet- ing that the Board of Public Utilities had no power to compel the Maritime Electric Co. to sell current to any individual at whole- sale rate. Mr. Leard. who we present at the meeting, stated that he himself did not want the Maritime Electric to sell him cur- rent wholesale as proposed in the resolution. Mr. Miller of Charlottetown, chairman of the Utilities Board. presided. Mr. Thomas Johnson, Summer-side, another mcrnber of the Board and Mr. C. St. Clair Trainer, counsel for the Board were present. Mr. J. J. Condon, secretary, was absent because of illness. CHARUOTTETOWN. CANADA. VMONDAY, DECEMBER 6. 1931 HIT B Y. JAPANESE 0115;; Be A Santa Pal —— Won’t You?
