To the Kditor of the Examiner. Sre,—In Thursday s issue of the ‘‘ Patriot, ' Mr. William Dunbar Stewartis reported tohave gaid, ata political meeting at Crapaud, that the Local Governme t paid Simon W, Crabbe, for ene cooking stove, the sum of 3412. The above statement, like many ethers made by this polit cal humbug, is entirely false, a8 the records in the Public Werks De- partment will prove Mr. W. D. Stewart, I have no doubt, would have been better pleased had the order heen iven to his psrticular friend — Mr. Fehosen who he empleyed as a middle man in the purchase of Register Grates and Mantles, some of which are lying unused in the attic of the new Lunatic Asylum, Yours, ete., Simon W. Craps, Charlottetown Mareh 20, 1580, {We may state, in reference te the above, that the manufacturers price of the stove alluded to by Mr. Stewart, was $134.43, and that all Mr. Crabbe received for the trouble of importing, etc., was $6.72. Other state- grents made by Mr, Stewart, at the Crapaud meeting, are, doubtless, as extravagant and incorrect as the one referred to by Mr. Crabbe. —Kp, ExaMrver. } -—-— —— e+ -_—- aoe Cattle Exports. Live stock to the value of $2,681,000 was shipped from Canada, by the St. Lawrence, te Great Britain in 1879, againat 2,117,525 in 1878. This enormous increase of ex- portation of Canadian cattle, as compared with the previous year, shows that farmers are more alive to the importance of stock- raising and of improving the quality such as required for the English markets. The success which has thus far attended the exportation ef Canadian cattle gives great encouragement for farmers to pay still more attention to stock-raising and im- prevement of breed. a. - Tus Evection 1s THe First Disrricr.— The Sheri® of Queen's County opened his nomination Ceurt to-day for the purpose of “nominating, electing and cheosing one able and discreet man for business to represent the First Electoral District of Queen’s County in the Lower House of Assembly, in the place ef the Henorable William Campbell, who has accepted the office of Commissioner of Public Works.”’ At twelve o’cleck the late member William Campbell was propesed by James Smith, Esq., of Lot 20, and secended by John Sherron, Esquire, ef Orapaud ; Lot 29, farmer; Angus MeDongall, ef Lot 30, farmer; Johan Me Dougall, of Lot 30, farmer; John Campbeli, of Lot 29, farmer; Robert Bruce Stewart, jr, of Lot 30, farmer; Maicclm Mathesen, of 67, merchant; Aneas Cash, of Lat 20, School Teacher; Oliver Wadman. of Lot 2S, merchant; Duncan M, McIntyre, late of Let 21, merchant, now of the Registry Office, Charlottetown: \Villiam Reid, jr, of Lot 29, earriage builder; Archibald Shaw, of Crapaud; Let 29, accountaut ; Robert Rogerson, of the game place, farmer; Donald W.
