Ma.rk's parish, Lot 7, has suf- fered a severe loss ln the death of one oi its most faithflll parishon- ers in the person of Mr. Thomas Butler at his home in Glengarry, Lot 7, on Friday morning, Nov. 9I.b, at the age of sixty-two years. Few knew that he was lndispos- ed, as he was carrying on the same active life, until Wednesday, Nov. ith, when he was stricken with intestinal hemmcrhages, which terminated in his death on the above date. Prom the beginning the case was known to be serious, having developed very rapidly- Expert medical skill and nursing, which was immediately procured, com- bined with the loving sollcitude of his family and friends, failed t/o save the life apparently so needful to carry on the onerous duties of his estate. Realizing only too well that lmprobability of his ultimate recovery, he turned his entire thoughts to preparation for death by a complete resignation to God’s Holy Will. After reclbving the last consoling sacraments of the Cst.ho1ic,Church, administered by his pastor Rev. Phealan McKenna, it was quita evident that his work on earth was drawing to a close, though lt was hard for those near and dear to him to realise that death was so near with such a short duration oi' sickness. The deceased was a son of the late Thomas Butler and was aI suc- cessful and energetic farmer, also deeply interested in fox ranching. Two supervisors i eleven teachers were present. prrvlsor MacPhee gave an ln- restlng and instructive talk on 'ie teaching of oral and silent reading. He said that if s pupil ls to be able to read well orally he must be taught very carefully while ln the primary grades. In the higher grades more time ahouldibc spent in teaching silent reading which la for the purpose of in- creasing speed and comprehension. An abundance of supplementary reading is necessary for all grades. The teachers asked several ques- tions on the reading subject which were satisfactorily answered by Supervisors Hynes and MscP'hee. The meeting then adjourned. MOUNT IIDIYAI. SCHOOL Mount Royal school standing for October: pleasure to visit his heme. There his friends, especially the youth oi the surrounding districts were made to feel the warmth of a sln- cere welcome and enjoyed many pleasant evenings within the cozy confines of his home. Aa a citizen he was charhsble, hospitable and extremely honest. in politics he was a flrm adher- ent of the principles of the Con- servative party and took an active interest in the political life of the community. Ever a sincere Catholic. he prac- ticed his faith unobtruslvely wl'h- out show or demonstration. He was imbued in the interest of the work of his church and any suggestion made by his pastor met with his generous support.
