Aug. 25 at 8:30 am. in St. Patrick's Church. Grand River, when Mary Veronica. daughter of Mrs. and the late Henry Pleatld of Grand River was united in the Holy Bonds of Mat- rimony to Gabriel Anthony, son of Mrs. and the late John Ifinnan of Bloomfield in a double-ring cere- mony. Rev. Pius Finnan, brother of the groom, celebrated the nup- tial Mass. The church was beautifully dec- orated with baskets of gladioli and ferns. The pews were marked with streamers and flowers. Mrs. Harold Mclntyre organist played the wedding march and accom- panied the ladies choir in sing- ing "Mother At Your Feet. We're Kneeling” and "On This Day Oh Beautiful Mother" Given in marriage by her cou- sin, Mr. William Arsenault, the bride wore a floor-length gown of nylon net and lace over satin with fitted lace jacket. Her shoulder- length veil fell in folds and she carried a bouquet of peach roses and white prayer book, a gift of Father Rooney. 'I'he bridesmaid, Miss,Ethel Fin- nan. sister of the groom. wore pink not over taffeta with matching, headdress. and carried a bouquet of yellow roses. Mr. Everett Campbell. cousin of the bride. supported the groom. The ushers were Mr. Wallace Mc- Klnnon and Mr. John A. The damage of vanuus com- mitted at the new Raceway Stad- ium in Sumrnerside was fortun- ately not very extensive, and we presume. considering all the pub- licity the affair has been given. Steps will be taken to have the damage repaired, and to, take rea- sonable precatitioiis to insure that the acts of vandalism are not repeated. We hope the authorities concerned will not assume that they will then have done all that is necessary to protect the rights and investment of the citizens, as far as the Raceway Stadium is concerned. Surely it is not enough Just to make sure that the building is not torn apart, stick by stick. To keep it standing unmolested is neces- sary. of course. but there should be some attempt to explain to the citizens. whose money is in- vested in the enterprise, what the stadium stands for. There is an air of mystery now shrouding the whole rink project which now bids fair to remain a "while elephant" in the sense that it is apparently not going to fulfill the purpose for which it. was intended, To the extent that the Race- way. Stadium 1-: private enterprise, it 1:3. we suppose. none of the public'a business what happens to 1L But 1t.is. at least partly, a town project, and one which the citizens have every right to reel is distinctly their business. ' Immediately after the wedding a. reception was held at the Birch! Hill.'I'oLirist Home for immediatel relatives and friends. The table! decorated with lighted tapers and a. three-tier wedding cake, which was cut in the traditional manner. The toast to the bride was pro- posed by Rev. M. J. Honey and responded to by the groom. Immediately after the breakfast the newly-weds left by car on a wedding tour through Maine and other parts of interest..For travel- ling the bride oonned a light blue suit with navy accessories. Mr. and Mrs. Finnan will reside in surnmerside, where the groom is employed with Curran and Briggs, and the bride is an employee at R. T. Holman Ltd. CASCUMPEC SCHOOL (September Report) Grade X - l. The associations said today that Trade Minister Howe had written them Sept. 15 that the government does not intend to extend the tariff concessions beyond the coffer dams. The concessions, under a Joint arrangement with the United States, provide for refunding cus- toms duty and excise taxes on material and equipment going into coffer dams which cross the inter- national border on the river near Cornwall, Ont. The associations said there had been concern over proposals that a similar arrangement be applied to all international aspects of the project. The lowest Canadian bid- dera on a. coffer dam at Barnhart island had quoted foreign prices, on a tariff-free basis, for construc- tion equipment and other ma- terlals.
