To correct an error of the press, we re- publish the Secretary’s report of the Liber- al-Conservative Convention—omitting the Resolutions which appear in our editorial columns. We heard several complaints on Saturday evening regarding theearly hourat which the ‘‘night. men” commenced work at. the corner of King and Queen streets. Tux following is a well sketched paragraph which we clip from the Dominion Press of Oakland, Cal. :— A Prince Edward Island man, who weighs nearly 8 ) pounds, has a colt with three heads, six eyes and fourteen legs. Barnum ought to see that man and his colt. Tue photograph of the Osborne family is now on exhibition inthe window of the Diamond Bookstore. It was rather small to take the eye of the passer-by, but the en- ergetic proprietor was equal to the emer- gency when he sketched a large picture of the. unfortunate family from the photo., — which can now be seen in the win- wee % Pror, Ceci, the famous exposer, of spri- tualism, is coming to Charlottetown. He gives one of his intensely interesting enter- tainments at Market Hall next Thursday evening. He comes here with most excellent endorsements, from both the clergy and the press. In speaking of him, the St. John Jelegraph says: ‘‘ The enter- tainment, by Prof. Cecil, at the Institute last eve , Was, certainly, one of the best ever given in this city, and was highly en- joyed by the large audience present. Prof. Cecil ig a perfect genius in his way, and while doing a good turn by exposing the folly of spiritualism, keeps a crowd ina tumult of laughter by his genial mirth pro- voking ways and doings.” A Sensation.— Our correspondent at Morell sends us the following note, which was found on Sunday on the railroad track, about half a mile east of Morell Station. It was written on a slip of newspaper and en- closed in a sailor's knife-sheath, placed carefully on a sleeper, with a stone on top of it. The correspondent heard that the writer of the note was seen at St. Peter’s Harbor on Saturday evening, so that he probably did not commit the deed medi- tated :— ** Saturday night. ** Whoever finds this will go in the bushes the way this spike points, and you will finda broken-hearted man with his throat cut. ‘‘Send to Boston and you will find my friends. ** Sigaed Davip M.” The correspondent further states : ‘‘ We pose him to be a young man, calling himself David Morrison, who came up this way three or four days ago on a ‘ girl hunt,’ and we have heard he did not succeed in seeing her, as she kept out of his way. He had no money on him, as I hear he did not pay his bill to the widow with whom he was staying. There was a crowd search- ing the bushes for him yesterday. If alive and he appears around here again, he will likely meet with a warm reception.” ~ HOTEL ARRIVALS. RANKIN HOUSE. July 20.—Geo, W. Coney; J. E. Avignon, Montreal; Rufus B. Oxley, Halifax; J. At the anniversary of the establishment of the Liberal-Association of Bermondsey street, London, last night, Mr. Gladstone made a long speech, in which he begged to decline resuming the leadership of the Liberal party. He powerfully attacked the manner in which the people have lately been governed. He said that no despotic government in Europe would have dared to do what the present Cabinet had done in accepting such responsibilities unknown to the people. He criticised the Treaty of Berlin, whereby England has consented tore- place under the despotic rule of Russia Bess- arabia, which belonged to free Roumania. tussia has retired her claims to heavy in- demnity, with which she can always make . pretext for war. At the same time, the lreaty has dealt with the integrity and in- dependence of Turkey. With regard to the convention with Turkey, only one epitaph is possible, namely ; ‘‘An insane covenant.” None of the great English statesmen of the last forty years would have signed it. It is, to our shame, a convention of absurdity and duplicity. It is odions to every valu- able feeling of this country, and has alien- ated the friendly feelings of all the foreiga powers. England has sold Bessarabia to Russia, the brave Montenegrin’s conquests to Austria, the jealousy and selfishness of the Greeks to Turkey; and lastly, Turkey to England. Gladstone concluded by hop- ing that the Ministry would shortly be judged by an appeal to the country. THE McCARTHY MURDER. DorcueEstErR, July 22. What a truly beautiful world we live in Nature gives us grandeur of mountains glens and oceans, and thousands of means for enjoyment. We can desire no better when in perfect health ; but how often do the majority of people feel like giving it up disheartened, discouraged and worried out with disease, when there is no occasion for this feeling, as every sufferer can easily ob- tain satisfactory proof that Green’s August Flower will make them as free from disease as when born. TION (Limited) beg to intimate to the Public that the price of SYDNEY COAL has been Reduced to $2 per ton of 2240 Ibs., a price which it is hoped will place it within the reach of all consumers, The opening of the new winning at ‘‘ THE SYDNEY MINES” and the fact that the SYDNEY COAL now being shipped is all from the DEEP taken in connection with re cent improvements in the process of screening, affords purchasers a positive guarantee of the very superior quality and condition of the SYDNEY COAL now offered for sale. It is a well-know fact that for many years past the prices of other Cape Breton coals have been regulated by the rates fixed for SYDNEY COAL; but while itis true that other coals, to get a sale at all, have been pressed on the market at various prices under the current rate of SYDNEY COAL, it is no less true that, taking into account the superior lasting { qualities of SYDNEY COAL when compared with other Cape Breton coals, the advantage, both as to economy and convenience, is in favor of SYDNEY COAL, even at a much The General Mining Association (Limited) regret that they should again have to caution the Public against the attempts being made from time to time to induce them to buy in- ferior coals purporting to be ‘‘ EQUAL TO SYDNEY,” ““SUPERIOR TO SYDNEY,” etc., etc., while some yet more unscrupulous vendors have not hesitated to advertise their coalas SYDNEY COAL (from some designated locality). All these efforts to sell coal by such means are only so many admissions on the part of those who make them of the sranDARD character of SYDNEY COAL. It has come to the knowledge of the Asso- ciation that in frequent instances parties giving orders to truckmen and others for SYDNEY COAL have been furnished with other and inferior coal. The Public are cautioned against permitting themselves to be imposed apon in this way. Every vessel loaded at THE SYDNEY MINES is furnished with a certificate of her cargo being ,dney Coal. Parties purchasing should satisfy themselves by demanding the production of this certiticate.
