solo was excellently rendered and was.

Ch:i’s Earle sang a beautiful solo fort
which an encore was loudly called for
but to which he did not respond. Miss
Amy Earle, always a favorite with a
Ch’town audience. fully sustained her
reputation as a sweet singer. Mrs.
Gerard, a stranger to the public here.
sang exquisitely. ‘~lf the waters could
speak as they flow.” She was ably sus-
tained in the chorus part by Mrs. E. H.
Norton, Mr. Chas' Hermann and Mr.
S. N. Earle. Mr. E. H. Mitchell in
“A Coon Song” brought down the
house and was compelled to respond to
an encore. The piece de resistance
was = “Three Doughty Men”
by Messrs.Owen,Baylield,Earle and llc-
Lean. The audience would not be de-
nied the pleasure of hearing them again
and loudly called for them the
line aspect were given. The fir-st,Grace
Darling and her father going to the
rescue of the shipwrecked, was shown
'n two scenes, The second, that of
Queen _ Elizabeth using the cloak so
gallantly placed for her by-Sir Walter
Raleigh to cross the muddy spot on her
way. The posing of the figures in
these tableaux was very fine. The
arrangement of these was the work of
Mr. Ttios. May, ably assisted by
Mr. W. P. Doull, The songs
by the school children were
very line; erp=ci»'llly the story of the
tligs, when the Bags of Canada, Old
France, _Scotland and Ireland were sev-
erally raised as their description was
sung. With line effect the time honor-
ed Union Jack was raised above all the
others as the audience rose and joined
with the pupils in singing the national
anthem. Mrs. Mitchell had charge of
the training of the pupils. Before the
close of the entertainment Principal
Seaman, cn behalf of the school, return-
ed thanks to Rev. Mr. Simpson for the
free use of the hall, to Mrs. Mitchell for
her kindness in training the pupils, to
Mpssrs. May and Doull for the carrying
out of the tableaux.
