tending the annual convention this
week of the Maritime Domain,
Knights of Pythills. will be Past
Chancellor P. Campbell Johnson, of
Westmorland Lodge, No. 3. who
will be the outstandng Pythian
upon whom the Grand Lodge de-
gree will be conferred by Grand
Chancellor Hugh M. Flemming, of
Juniper. N. B.. The visit of Mr.
Johnson to Charlottetown should
prove one of more than ordinary
interest at this time. for it will be
the first. time the Pythian Grand
Lodge degree will be conferred up-
on a son of one of the Fathers of
Confederation in the chamber
where his parent sat on September
lst, 1864, when the Corifedera/tion
pact was laid. It is' a unique dis-
tinction both for Westmorland
Lodge and the Mtarltime Domain to
have such a noted figure within
their ranks. and it is of further
significance that the conferring of
the degree should take place in the
province known as the "Cradle of
Confederation."

in the Prince County Hospital on
Thursday evening M.r. David
Dougherty at 85 years of age. Mx.
Dougherty was born in Port Hill,
Prince County, and was the lon oi
the late Mr. and Mrs. Francis
Dougherty of that place. Mr.
Dougherty engaged In farming and
was considered one of the most
successful farmers of that district.
Scvci‘a.l years ago he retired and
went to live in the pretty village of
Tyne Valley, where he made many
friends. During his long and useful
life he took an active interest in
the affairs of the community. He
vvas it staunch Presbyterian. He was
twice married, both his partners
along life`s highway predeceased
him. He leaves to cherish_hls mem-
ory two daughters, I-Iaylf ahd Amy,
both married and residing in Brit-
i.-li Columbia; two sons, Edwin and
Edgar in Boston, the former arriv-
ing home to see his father before
he died; also two sisters, Mrs. Cyril
Doble of Port Hill and Miss Ada
Dougherty in the U. S _ A. and one
brother. Mr. Louis Dougherty of St."
Louis, Missouri. The funeral was
held on Saturday aftcmoon from
the Prcsbyterian Church. Tyne

Hundreds of volunteer fire fight-
ers labored yesterday to control
brush fires at French Village, near
Mt. Stewart and at Abney. 'three
miles from the village of Murray
River. Last night the flames at
Almey were dyinl down but at
French Village residences were still
in GBHBG' from flying embers driv-
en by high wind. The fire was
advancing along a mile front and
there was little immediate hope of
cfhelefklng it unless there was rain-

The fire between Abney and
MUFYBY River was sweeping ovcr
waste land which had been swept
by flre several years ago. The fire,
which had been smouldering for
several days, flared up Mondny
afternoon and spread rapidly yes-
terday despite the strenuous efforts
of 300 fire fighters directed by
Mounted Police from the Monta-
gue detachment.
For a time yesterday the CNR,
station in Abney and t.hc resi-
dence of Mr. Matthew Grotto,
Murray River were in dangcr.
Stacks of hay belonging to Mr,
