UPCOMING BURSARY DEADLINES Leadership This year for the first time in a long time, U.P.E.I. Christian Student Community (C.S.C.) will be hosting a conference on leadership. The conference will begin on the evening of the 7th of November and end on the afternoon of 9th of November. It will be taking place on campus at the Chaplaincy Center. The conference promises to be enjoyable. Union of Public Sector Employees Bursaries These $500 bursaries are awarded to: (1) Union members, or (2) dependents of union members or retired members who are enrolled as full-time students during the mext semester (winter-spring 1987). Financial need, academic ability and involvement in U.P.S.E. activities are all - considerations. Applications are available from Student Services. Deadline: Friday Nov. 21. Conference cheese party will follow the opening remarks. Activities on Saturday will commence at 9:30 a.m. and will consist of such talks on leadership as ‘What is leader- ship?” and “‘How to communi- cate effectively as a leader”. Each talk will be followed by small group discussions. The day will end at 3 p.m. in the afternoon, but the evening promises to be fun. EXCHANGE laeste aims to provide career-oriented training abroad normally for 8-12 weeks during the summer for students of Engineering, the Sciences, and some related fields. National Research Council (Summer Employment) Opportunities for summer employment are available for Students in Science and Engineering. Positions are available in most Canadian centres with the majority located in Ottawa. Preference is given to First Class Honors Students. Connie Egan Pillsbury Undergraduate Scholarships Program Four awards equally valued at $1,250 will be awarded to students in the following programs: two awards for Busines/Commerce, one. award for Food Science, one award for Agricultural Science. Patricia Kenny Harvey Moore Wildlife Scholarship A scholarship is awarded in the area of project, research work, or study of wildlife conservation. Applicants must be, or have been, studying Education With the first semester well under way, the education society continues its active role on campus. The society concluded its elections early in September and the executive is composed of Florence McCarey — President, Gordie Cox — Vice-President, Susan Laviolette — Student Council Rep. and Mike Trainor — first year B.Ed. rep. Earlier in the year, the society held its annual outdoor Education Weekend at Camp Riverdale. A good deal was learned about the outdoors and the wild life that was observed Friday night will be long remembered (although some might wish it wasn’t) The society has also done a good deal of charitable work. Money was contributed to Rick Hanson’s Man In Motion Tour for spinal cord research. Deadline: January 31. Society The second half of the semester looks to be just as fun as the first. The society has two major events planned. The first is a draw for four free tickets to the Confederation Centre Old Fashioned Christmas. Tickets are $2.00 each and can be obtained from any _ society member. The biggest event in the works is the annual Education Society Lip Sync Pub scheduled for November 20 at the Barn. Anyone who attended the Lip Sync Pubs last year knows they were the social highlights of the year and there is no reason to believe they won't be better this year. Society members have been gathering prizes for this since September, so there are plenty of goodies to be won. Anyone interested in entering can do so by getting in touch with any society member. —~ LEADERSHIP AWARDS 1986-87 For the 1986-87 academic year the University of Prince Edward Island -will offer a number. of awards of varying amounts ($500-2500) to students who have satisfied the entrance requirements of the University or who have passed at least eight three-semester hour courses in the previous year of study and who are making a significant contribution to university life through participation and leadership in areas such as drama, music, recreation, residence life, student government, clubs and societies.
