A French Fishery Outrage. BRITISH VESSELS ATTACKED BY FRENCH- MEN AT NEWFOUNDLAND —AN INVES- TIGATION BY ADMIRAL COMMERALL. Admiral Commerall, of the British flagship, is investigating the outrage recently perpetrat don four British vessels by French fisherman, headed by a shore captain, at Cape ¢ Joions, on the north-east coast of Newfoundlaud, ear!y in August. Four British fishing vessels anchored at Cape Onions for cod-tishiag Aa soon as they launched their skiff a number of Frenchmen ordered them to weigh anchor and quit. They retused, whereupon the F:enchmen began to unbend their sail, seized their oars, and carried them ashore. Hu.ving stripped three \ essels, they boarded the schooner Comet. Capt. Aylwaid showed fight, lelivering some ljusty blows on the Frenehmen, and putting them to flight. The assailants then attacked Capt. Ayi- ward and crew with boat hooks and gatts, severely maltreating them. ‘hey then stripped his vessel. Two days after a French war cruiser arrived, and after inquiry restored the sails and gear to the vessels, but ordered them to quit the berbor. All the vessels retired under protest. The people of New- feundiand are indignant at the outrage which may lead to international com- plications. eee _ A Wiss Horse.
