The Panther Prints April 2, 1996 UPEI SPORTS AWARDS BAN QUET by Lorne Caborn The Charlottetown Hotel was site of the annual Panther intercollegiate awards banquet on Wednesday night, March 27. The event was attended by coaches, players, dignitaries and the media who all enjoyed the evening to the fullest. The Hotel provided an excellent dining experience and the players, for the most part, provided the entertain- ment. The loudest table went to either the women’s soccer team or the men’s hockey team, depending on who you asked. The soccer team broke into song most of the night while the hockey team contributed mainly grunts and screams in an attempt to out perform the women. The song even prompted one listener to state, “If I have to listen to that song one more time, III puke.” Wether or not it was the song or some other influence that was going to cause the listener to puke is another question _ all together. The night solidified the fact that UPEI sports had an excellent year, as along with the University’s own awards, many AUAA and CIAU awards were also garnered by the teams. Tracey McGee and Curtis Robinson, two All- Canadians, were also named the out- standing athletes of the year by the Alumni Association. Among some of the other notables were two soccer players, Stella Teoli and Chris Diamond, who won the Gordon & Murial Bennett award and W.A. Ledwell awards respec- tively.
