B. McMillan, Deputy Munster of Public Works: Pflvillli-Fblzrieen miles of as- phalt pavement was laid on the St. Peters Road between Morcll Bridge and the town of Souris. This mmpletes the hard surfaclng of the highway between Charlottetown and Souris. Sub-Gradlngz- Two miles of aub~ grading was done on the St. Pct- ers Road before the pavement was Clreosotcd Timber Bridges and Culvertso-Af. Graham's Pond on the road between Gaspereaux and Murray Harbour North a creosoted timber culvert with two openings each 4 ft. x 6 ft. was erected, the material being on hand from the previous fall. 0n the zoad to Mount Hope a crecsoted timber bridge with a. clear span of 26 feet was built At Mclnnls‘, Souris Line Road, a oreosoted timber bridge with a HON. A new heating system was install- ed in the Georgetown Court House and Jail. Heavy maintenance on secondary roads included the ditching and grading of about one ‘hundred and twenty miles and scraping practic- ally all the roads in the country sev- eral times. Other Gravellfnm-Izrlcluded the grzlvelllng of roads leading to the St. Eeanors and Wellington Air- ports, and to the bombing site at Sunbury Cave. Other Bridge Workr- Consisted ofrcpltlrlng the larger wooden bridges and the building of about 45 new wood-en bridges and 70 new wooden culverts. There were about 90 steel culverts placed of sizes varying from 1 1-2 to 5 feet in d1- alneter. The larger bridge repair joba consisted of replanking the arch of Holdimand Bridge, Egmont Bay, grading and railing Glllarfs Bridge near Alberton, leplanklng Clark's Bridge, Wilmot Valley and rebuilding the arch of the Whale Back Bridge, Malpeque. The fall storms and high tides were destructive to the approaches of many of the larger bridges, and n lot of work was required in stone work, pole work, gravelling, etc, to keep tllcnl passable.
