W.L. was held in the church on May it with a large attendance. The dlreclor. Rev. J.W. Mccardle opened the meeting with prayer. The minutes of the last annual meeting were read by the secre- tary and approved as read. A -very successful report of the years finances was given by the treasur- er. Mrs. H.J. Hynes. The secretary read a report of the years work and thanked the executive for help given during the year. Rev. J.W McCardle then gave a much appreciated talk to the members. stressing the great Va- iue of the family Rosary and asked all members to renew their Rog. sry pledge. Election of officers then took place and the nominating commit- tee brought in the following slate of officers: President, Mrs. Joseph Callaghan; First Vice-president. Mrs. Levi Power; Second Vice president, Mrs. Joseph Power; Third Vice-president. Mrs. Lester Carpenter; Secretary. Mrs. Daniel Condonl and Treasurer. Mrs. H.J. I-lynes, (re-elected). The newly installed president, Mrs. Callaghan thanked the mem- bers for their help and coopera- tion and also asked for ;their con- tinued support next year. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Joseph Lani- ' - gain. The meeting closed with pray- er. DISTRESS SIGNAL . ANSWERED Lobster fisherman Stewart Ross of Flat River had just hauled two traps over the side of his thirty- cight foot "Elizabeth R" when he had to have another fisherman raise the "distress flag" (top) in the craft at the limo were Dan Cook and Jim Singleton of Belle RiVer and Winston Smith of Pow- nal. Mr. iloss's boat was tiic only craft out al the time and two other fishermen had to come out from the Belle River "run" to assist the disabled craft. The centre photo shows AIIKIIS MacLean and Martin Stewart of Hopefield coming to the assistance of the "Elizabeth R". which was then several hundred yards off shore. The bottom photo shows the res- cue craft towing Boss's boat into Belle River Run. On arrival Mr. Ross had to beach his craft to find the cause of the tro "lo. it turned out to he a jute big that had somehow become entangled in the propeller shaft and brought the lobster boat almost to a standstill. ' II-year-old Montague Boy Saves Child From Drowning The quick thinking of an eleven-- year-old boy saved the life of Bar- bara Stewart. four years old, from drowning. .
