FARM FORUM RALLY At Vernon River Hall on next Monday evening December 21, the Alberry Plains Farm Forum will be host at a rally for rural people in the farm forums in the area and in addition an invita- tion is extended to~all who may be interested in the rural develop- ment. An interesting program is being arranged and there will be @ good balance of entertainment and education with farm forum people carrying most of the -Tes- ponsibility in both instances. The meeting will commence at $"p-m._and after listening to com- ments by Rev. Father Roache of St. Dunstan’s University on the radio program Rural Magazine, the audience will hear a panel discussion on the topic, ““What do our rural communities need?” Panel members will be: Norbert Fraser, Summerville; Charles Murphy, Vernon River; Mrs. Arnold MacLeod, Uigg and Mrs. David Mutch; Mt. Herbert. An BEE added attraction will be enter-|' taining numbers provided by the Summerville and Alberry Plains UNEMPLOYMENT On December 7 the farm forum discussed unemployment insur- ance in agriculture. Surprisingiy @ majority of the forums-accept- ed and endorsed the idea of un- employment insurance for farm Possibly it should be mention- ed that a number while so doing pointed out that application on a voluntary basis eventually would have the same force and effect because any farmers not offering stamps would be in a poor posi- tion to get help. Slowly and steadily farm think- ing seems to be moving for better or for worse to acceptance of the idea that unemployment insur- ance will soon be necessary in agriculture if the farmer is going to compete for his share of the labour force. GOOD FREIGHT NEWS Potato and turnip people will be presented with an attractive New Year’s present when on Jan- uary 10 lower freight rates on potatoes and turnips going inte the eastern United States wil! come into effect.
